Adjusted the suspension further, stupid thing had understeer, now it sits pretty neutral, but have not pushed it with the new set up to point of grip loss.

Lower front by 1mm, one click to soft on front for a bit more bite.

Nothing exciting but took some time to clean up the rust that collects on the hubs so the brake rotors come off when they need changing in a few years.

I was only able to do the rears - realized the 5mm allen wrench I needed for the fronts, I broke a few weeks ago fixing my son's car.

before - this is after only 14 months (2018 model bought new in feb. 2019) and I already cleaned and sprayed what you can reach with the rotor in place last year.

How many clicks front vs rear now?

1 made diff. If it was too stupid I found it understeered. 2 clicks diff was too much and felt bit wobbly. Now will push it and scrub the tires then once we are free to do stuff will likely track it and get 265/295 adjust toe blah blah blah. Boring stuff

That’s a great idea! I assume you used a wire brush to clean it up, but what paint did you use and how did you mask up so well?

just a wire brush head mounted in my cordless drill.

I used whatever black primer/paint was in the house - I think it's rustoleum, but nothing special. If I planned ahead, I would have gotten an actual rust inhibitor.

I "masked" it by poking he hub through the bottom of a box to contain the overspray. After that I just wiped the wet paint away from the machined surfaces with a paper towel wet with brake cleaner.

"paint box" (my grease gun leaks)

Thanks for this... I might very well do this over the next few days! Need to investigate types of black paint available first.

Good idea and nice work. Mine is a 17 so I can only imagine what they look like ...was planning to re-coat the wheels so I'll add this to my 'stuff to do while staying home' list.

I started investigating this today and discovered that the bolts that hold the callipers on need to be replaced because they're single use. Even the disc to hub bolts are single use, but I'm less worried about them because the wheel would hold the disc on and centred even if those bolts failed.

The front and rear calliper bolts have different torque specs, which is odd, though they probably equate to the same result:
Front Caliper Bolts - Torx screw with washer - M12X1,5X43 ZNS3: 34106864424 x 4 - Renew 110 Nm
Front Disc screws - Inner hex bolt M8 x 12: 34111123072 x 4 - Renew 16 Nm

Rear Caliper Bolts - Torx screw with washer - M12X1,5X43 ZNS3: 34106864424 x 4 - Renew 30 Nm + 90 degrees
Rear Disc screws - Inner hex bolt M8 x 14: 34211161806 x 4 - Renew 16 Nm
CTSean, did you replace yours, did you find a way to remove the disc without removing the callipers, or did you simply re-use the bolts?

I just put them back in. Reading a bunch of posts and it seemed like some people reused then with no issue, others replace them. I might order a few to do it right. I did find a video after than suggests removing the pads provides enough clearance to get the rotors off but haven't tried it. I'll try that way if I have time to do the fronts this weekend.

Regarding replacements, mine are traditional bolt heads. some of the replacements appear to be torx (or inverted torx - I don't know the right name. the torx are almost twice the price of the older part# and of course require the right socket to install them.

If anybody knows what size torx the new bolts are can you post it?

Just a follow up from last post - While I am currently reusing the "old" bolts, I ended up ordering 4 from FCPEuro last night. The replacements appear to be the torx style of unknown size. I'll post the torx socket size when they show up and I figure it out if no one beats me to it.

Also worth noting maybe is that, while the TIS says to "renew bolts", it also says the same on caliper bolts for the E36 and e46 and I reused those several times over a couple hundred thousand miles

Oh I’m sorry, my intention wasn’t to publicly shame you into buying new bolts. I was actually hoping you’d found a way to remove the disc without removing the caliper.

Nevertheless, I’ll probably try to get hold of some replacement bolts myself for when I do the job. Hope it didn’t cost you too much!

Well truth be told it was taken last Saturday by my GF in the passenger seat on Skyline I think. We saw sunshine, overcast, fog, and rain.

Down PCH, up La Honda until Alice's then to Skyline, then onto the 92 into Foster City/San Mateo Whole Foods, then sadly the 101 home.
It's been many many years since Ive driven on Skyline Blvd.

Do the light markers on the side of the road still light up at night like it use to?

Don’t worry. You didn’t. I privately scared myself into it over the course of the week. I drove this morning (first time since the job) as if the first time I hit the brakes my calipers were simply going to come off and jam the rear wheels. The car survived - which really isnt a surprise.

I also figured having bought the 4 from FCP, I never have to buy any again. Extra convenient given the fronts use the same bolts.

Fantastic point re. FCP! I might order the stiffening plate bolts from them too going forward, there’s 8 used there and it gets expensive because you have to remove it to do anything underneath.
