Wow. Akrapovic finally seems to be the more reasonable option.

Just got my production number yesterday and I would normally be interested as the performance exhausts are usually very nice. The performance exhaust for my e90 and e82 are great. I don't need or want a remote for my exhaust. Axle back, no performance gains of any even small amount, and outrageous price tell me they completely missed the target market on this one. I'll wait for someone else's cat back with no gadgets that will break over time.

Akra's will be the same range in price. It is the same with F8x.
Not surprised.

Akra is probably one of the few "aftermarket" brands that has the build quality, fit & finish, lightweight construction, and durability that surpasses OEM in every regard while still being a better performance option.
Especially when an MPE demands such a high asking price with no gains, no weight savings, and inferior materials/construction, the Akrapovič becomes a no-brainer. If anyone has ever unboxed an Akra titanium exhaust, its a work of art & one almost feels guilty that such a beautifully crafted piece sits at the bottom on a car.

... all the warranty fanatics are rejoicing.
Does the price include the carbon diffuser that the exhaust requires as well, we may have missed that in tripping over the price. Regardless, I can get a full (hand made) 100% titanium exhaust for my STi for $995. This ///M tax BS is out of control, nothing about that exhaust puts it close to the $2k mark - tips included.

OK, I agree that it's overpriced but what were you guys expecting? MPE for M3/4 costs $5k plus $1k for the titanium tips and guess what? No performance gain for M3/4 either. Considering F8x MPE costs $6K in total, I'm not surprised or extremely disappointed with the $3K MPE for M2.

I'm sorry, let me see if I understand.
This is an "M Performance Exhaust". It does not save weight. It does not add power. It does not improve performance. It has a remote control for the sound. It costs over $3000. And again, that's the M "Performance" Exhaust. I have defended BMW for many things. This one is indefensible. |

Akra's are usually slip-ons, and rarely do they ever mate with the stock exhaust. Meaning it's a slice and dice job. Been down that road a couple times with their systems.
They're also going to be quite a bit more expensive than the M Performance system. Also, ever since the introduction of these "valve" based systems, prices have gone up. You've now added in electronics into the exhaust system. It's only common sense that it would be more expensive. The Akra's don't have this technology. It's one size fits all sound. You don't like the way it sounds? Stick a sock in a muffler, or punch a hole in one. That's really the only way to adjust the loudness. The M Performance line is geared towards those who like OEM equipment, as it's "safer". Being a BMW part, warranty stays intact. Not the case for any aftermarket system. If you think this is pricey, wait for the Armytrix or Supersprint or IPE systems. Those will be double this price. Personally, I think this a very fair price. |

I totally agree with you! I would have expected the M2 MPE to be approx 1.5x to 2x the M235i, but to be 3x to 4x the price, I am a little shocked as well. Anyhow, I will wait for the "official" Canadian pricing...
