Anyone get water stains on the seat handle?
I sure did. This is the handle on the top of the seat to tilt it forward. More of a tab, I guess. I typically drive with the window down, even in light rain and drops do get on the handle. Then when the sun comes out and the drops are still there, I think the drops act as lenses and allows the sun to bleach out the plastic a bit. Yeah, rain then sun 30 seconds later? Welcome to Florida.
I've tried some interior vinyl treatment on it and it helps a little....and not for long. I'm thinking of getting some matte carbon fiber vinyl wrap and covering them with that. Anyone know how to pull these off? I figure there's a cable underneath that I REALLY don't want to drop into the seat back. Thanks.

It's a super common, and a known issue with the beginning of the 2 series.
You're on your own, BMW takes no responsibility whatsoever, even though it's an obvious materials flaw. |

I've got the exact same issue with my driver side OG. Exact same spots... almost as if its water damage?
This post seems to have a solution: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1904839 |

Checking a few other 2 forums (non-M)....yep, a known issue.
It may be particularly bad on mine due to the strong sun down here. I couldn't find details on how to remove the handle so went back to basics and just wrapped my fingers around it and wiggled and pulled. It popped right off. If I wrap it I likely could do it right there, but if I need to remove the handle to do a better job, there are 2 torx bolts that look pretty easy to get to. I saw the post about using a magic eraser. I think I'm going to try to wrap it. Even if the magic eraser works in a month so I'll be in the same boat unless I coat it with something. I just ordered some matte carbon wrap for 8 bux on eBay. I'll post a pic or 2 if it turns out well....or even if it turns out like crap. Here's a pic of the trim and handle surround removed. You can see the little tabs. It comes off easily. Likely even easier if I'd bothered to get my trim removal tool.

Man... So many mods id love to do that I just don't have the cash laying around for lol. About what I expected for this: $900 for the part, plus shipping, paint, installation.

I had my handle fade like the ops. I had a detailed look at it using the Duetche Marque show on Sunday. He said the cause was the sun bleaching out the oil in the plastic.
I tried the Magic Eraser trick. No luck. Next I worked on the oil theory. Now my handle was a light gray from the eraser. I rubbed bees wax on the handle and buffed it with a microfiber cloth. Success. My handle is now solid black.

I think this has finally solved this bloody issue once and for all! Seems to have happened to a lot of people (myself included) but now there's a cure... or bee's wax.
Was it really as simple as that product and a microfiber or something else? |
