Engine overheated

Got this warning a few times today within 10 mins of driving. Water pump? Thermostat or both? I’m at 89k miles.

likely the water pump, that's the common sign of a water pump failure - an overheat.

If the thermostat fails I believe the car will not get up to temperature properly or runs hotter than normal, because even with the thermostat fully closed it isn't completely bypassing the radiator.

But while you're down there you might as well replace both.
