This may upset current GTS 4-banger owners though (value taking another hit).

Base price over here in Belgium (manual transmission):
  • Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0: 85,256.60 EUR
  • Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0: 87,313.60 EUR
  • Porsche 718 Spyder: 96,170.80 EUR
  • BMW M2 CS: 96,500.00 EUR
  • Porsche 718 GT4: 99,074.80 EUR
Price-wise, these 718 GTS 4.0 models may be a closer competitor to the M2 CS than the 718 GT4. Of course, also consider what the cars get as standard equipment.

6-cyl reference in the license plate and the "6" stitched on the shirt: Porsche marketing folks getting pretty overzealous in a "Petrolheads, please can we be friends again ?" fashion...

I'm very interested in the GTS 4.0

I've been offered an allocation for one (I've already been offered an allocation for an M2CS)

My trouble is I already have an M3CS, which really isn't driveable from November to end of March, so having two summer only vehicles is a tough sell for the wife, and myself. Hard to justify, especially considering it's a true 2-seater

yeah, but once you option up ANY Porsche, you are VERY far from the base price and VERY far from either the M2C or the M2CS....

Yikes! At 20% off it's looking pretty attractive.

"20% off ? OK, you got my attention". And then you negotiate a couple more percent off and settle for 20K off. True story.

Damn, I got a good deal around may due to my special circumstances. I checked and it was roughly 25% off the list price.

Maybe I should have waited a year to get a CS for that price off haha

For an M2 CS, a 10% discount ain't impossible.

I'd wager in the first 6 months or so in the US it will be impossible... if for some reason allocations don't sell out right away, then maybe that will become true. From what I can tell everything in my area is sold out. I've talked to three dealerships in about a 200 mile radius and there are 2-3 people on waitlist (and they turned away others in some cases) for each allocation expected at this point. Not any negotiating happening in that environment.

That is definitely true for the base and S models - I think I read somewhere once that the average "lot" car has ~20K in options on top of the base price, which definitely moves the price needle quickly.

I do think it's less true on the GTS models - because those come with more options as standard, there are less "obvious" things to add. The new 718 GTS 4.0 will probably start around ~88-90K...I think the options I would add get it into the 95K range...compare that to an M2CS with DCT at 88K....well, which would you rather have, for a relatively small price delta?

I love the S55 and have had many BMWs, but you can't even buy a new BMW with a naturally aspirated motor anymore. The 718 GTS 4.0 is a game changer, because it shows Porsche is dedicated to providing the enthusiast with options below the GT4 / Spyder. I will definitely be looking to pick one of those up in the next 4-5 years (CPO of course).

For fun that I can share with my kids in the back seat and still run to the track the choice is easy!

I need an automatic, which is not available on the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. Plus the M2 CS has more power and torque.

It will come - after it shows up in 2021 for the GT4 and Spyder.

I suspect the Cayman GTS will be a regular production vehicle, so a lot easier to get an allocation than an M2 CS or Cayman GT4.

Time will tell how the demand is for the CS. All of the sporty 2 series starting with the M235i then the M2 and then on to the M2 Competition were all launched with great fan fair and proceeded to have a short supply for at least 6 months. Many dealers were demanding prices over MSRP only to offer discounts later on. Now the CS is launched.... we'll see what happens.

You're correct, all initially 2 series model lineage all had a initial high demand, when they were now introduce to the market.

The M235i, in early 2014, was marked-up because as I was told by my dealer; it's a "niche" model..

And the M2, I remember I was blowed away by it's $51,700 base price, which was the BMW bargain of the decade IMO but the dealer had only one, on the showroom floor, with a few cosmetic bits, proudly adorning a $65,000 price tag.. As if

I suspect the M2 CS will sell out for sticker because of the limited units. There are a lot of people that believe that this model would recreate the supple/demand jackpot, like what happen with the 1M.

Who knows, maybe it will.. :

I doubt the dealer's will discount the CS much, if any, when there is only 500 available, in the whole country of 325 million people.

To be honest, I like it and although it a lavish expense, if I could of swing it, I would throw my hat in the ring, to get me one.

Totally agree. I wanted one because of the adaptive shocks, the Misano Blue, and the limited number. The price was somewhat irrelevant as it cost pretty much the same as everything else I was looking at - but actually had the potential for lower running costs long term for track etc than other options. Car buying is emotional to varying degrees depending on the buyer. Probably 50% emotional for me on this purchase, not much rational way to explain those choices!

Been offered 12% but turned it down anyway because of the price and the even harsher difference to the M2C (almost 29 % off of net price for diplomats).

The delta for the two is at roughly 33k Euros which I just can't ignore. That's a shitload of money for a car that has 40 hp more and some nice upgrades.

Nevertheless, both are awesome cars of the sort that we will dearly miss in the years to come - that I am sure of.

Cheers
