I've seen previous replies discussing the software versions and I'm a bit confused at what we're looking at here.
When I had my car updated this week, everything was reset and the work order says control units were updated. My Software version shows 62.3.213 which is what it showed before I took it in, but the NBTEvo is updated to O18184l. I think it was L something before. I see some people posting on here that they are updating iStep to version 64.x.xxx. So is my iStep still the old version? What is the recall updating then?

As for that NBT Evo version, I suspect you are on the 2018 07 ISTEP which is pretty much as new as it gets for the F series car. Only certain models like M2CS have some newer changes. You pretty much have latest

I forgot to mention my update of dct, dsc and rear diff software to the 2018-5 version. See attached old and new version numbers.
So the greatness is that I no longer get dsc flash light on upshifts in s+ like every time I did before. It could be the new dsc or the less aggression of dct shifting or the combo of both. I expected a smoother shifting in C and S. Didn't happen.

What if any changes do you notice with the update?
Interesting that my istep is older but my maps are newer?

Hello Sean. Was your update from the dealer or a tuner? You have a 2016? Are your shifts in C & S not smooth? I notice that in auto it's smooth in both but in manual it's less so.

Where I live traffic is otherworldly bad. Office is 7-8km (~5 miles) away and the commute takes me 40-45 mins single journey. So I get to experience the worst of DCT, drivability wise. I know how huge of a drivability improvement GTS DCT is, so I expect this new istep DCT is step toward smoother. But no, it's still old stock smooth. I manually upshift a lot when I know dct would've hold gear for longer than necessary. Either in Comfort in bad traffic, or in sport on throttle lift at high rpm. Manual mode isn't jerkier, instead it's good. In summary I think dct in C and S should not only hold the gear a little less either but also downshift more. S+ is fine as it though.

I find comfort shift quality is very good but it shifts a lot, always trying to be in the highest gear it can be, which makes sense but a little too much. Sport on the other hand holds the gears too long like you said. Instead it should shift sooner to keep the revs in the lower torque zone around 2k - 3k rpm. Of course like most I just shift manually but it'd be nice if bmw fixed it.

Even after a few days of driving, it still feels noticeably smoother in shifting and power delivery. The traction control is also less intrusive and when it does kick in, smoother and less abrupt in cutting the power. No noticeable steering feel difference but maybe that comes in the M2C update. Pops and bangs are definitely louder than before. Traction control pops have more bang to them. The WOT and lift off gun shot bang now occurs with normal aggressive driving which is amazing. iDrive also seems to work better, especially with the spotify BMW app connectivity.

Some have said complaining about the iDrive misbehaving works. I'm going to give that a try. I've had times where it acted like I was moving the iDrive wheel and pushing buttons but I wasn't.

Go into the nav screen by pressing the map button on the idrive controller, press the options button, go to navigation settings, position and software version, software version. You should see your road map and istep version here at the very bottom. I just said the iDrive was laggy (untrue) and that the weather app had stopped working (true) and they gave me a free update under "good faith" but said that if i wanted another one in the future they'd charge me the standard $150 or whatever it was. |

If there's a real issue then they should definitely do it for free if it's under warranty. They should do it to provide the level of customer service you expect from a premium brand. There are plenty of other brands that would be happy to take their place if they don't value customer satisfaction.

The first time complaining about phone connection worked, but last time it didn't. Instead of doing a full update they ONLY updated the bluetooth connection shit over the USB and of course then I didn't get all the other new stuff.

Disclaimer: Completely new to understanding what any of this means.
Currently on NBTeve_H16205I. I'm guessing this is a very old version, as I picked up the car in Sept of 2016 and don't know of any updates. Is there anywhere I can find out what getting to the newest version will gain me? I have problems pretty regularly with my phone not pairing correctly and having to reset the headunit. Possibly related? Thanks in advance!

So just updated all ECUs in one 32 minute session using info from these sources:
https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=983244 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1264746 All went well. Don't skip anything or cut corners. I went from F020-15-11-505 (E15413A) to F020-18-07-531 (E16202A). I used E-Sys 3.27.1, Launcher Premium 2.8.x, Rheingold and Standard tools (last 2 from Bimmergeeks). PSdZData FULL from https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=901081 Once all updated I cleared 77 codes and only had to Initialise Power windows and Enable Airbag Activation. Thanks to the various communities with special mention to aboulfad, shawnsheridan and Almaretto Last edited by baturbo; 09-27-2018 at 04:40 PM.. |

Checked my latest i-step after I requested a software update from the dealer before delivery. Current version now: F020-18-07-547. I can say compared to my previous M2 that the M2 is pulling stronger and making even more burbles.
Is there some overview of all the latest i-steps version of 2018? |

Best part about the update to me is the traction control being sooooo much less intrusive. Almost looped it in normal sport mode today because I was so used to it cutting the power.

So is it enough to hook up the battery to a charger or is more powerful stuff needed?

Car feels like it pulls harder now but I believe that this feeling may be attributed to the fact that the traction control is more lenient and as a result is pulling the engine back less in the lower gears than it was before the update. So although the car most likely has the same power output, the delivery feels more aggressive
