On my non-LCI

Before (NBTevo H16303I) and After (NBTevo L17193I)

1) Oh yeah - the startup roar! It took me by surprise when I picked up my car. I was like WTF
2) Steering - seems a tad better. Can't explain. A fraction lighter - maybe?
3) When driving in comfort - the accelerator feels more like sport. Much more sensitive than before.
4) Mystery Boost? - It was and still is raining, so any hard driving was out.

I wouldn't say skeptic so much as I just want know it's doing something I want it to do before I go begging BMW to upgrade me or pay for a flash. If it improves things then I am for sure interested it getting it done. I need to get the free service done next week or the following week so if BMW would do it, the car will be there soon anyway.

Downsides? Out of pocket and no real changes I notice? Worst case scenario there is some bugs in the new flash that I don't currently have. It's probably not risky though.

My 2016 does not have apple play and might be a different I-drive version.

I already have some coding because I changed the seats out.

Are these updates just for 2017+ cars?

Guarantees you will not get. But, if there is a new bug in flash, you should not be charged to re-program again.

I will be at EAS this Saturday at noon and will have a few hours to kill. How much does a dyno run? (though I'm more interested in the bluetooth / Carplay connectivity updates tbh)

*I also have to check my software version

EDIT: found it - it is Under the Navigation menu settings on iDrive for those wondering.

My version is K17052I - so it looks like I'm fairly current

I've spoken about it in the first page, +4-5psi peak boost, DCT behavior improved, less difference in heaviness for the steering comparing Comfort-Sport.
A whole better refined menagement of the power/driving-train.

It was 0.9x bar (~13psi) and now 1.2x bar (~18psi) in the same conditions.

I don't buy it. That would be another 50wtq/wtq. Give it a week of driving and what those boost numbers are. I think a lot of you guys are feeling the effects of a hard reset, nothing more.

Who knows. My dealer checked and they had the latest. Maybe yours is different since it looks like you are in Canada?

Crazy thing is, it feels like there is more boost. I have experienced the ECU reset after a flash before, and this feels different.

As others have said, it is possible that BMW has chosen to up the power output of the engine. I agree this is unusual and possibly unprecedented, but the logic that I can see is:
  • Competitors (especially the RS3) now have quite a bit more power than the M2
  • The M240i is very (perhaps too) close in straight line performance
  • The N55 is coming to the end of its life, and rumoured to be replaced by the S55. If the power difference between the N55 based M2 and the S55 based M2 was large, it might upset a lot of N55 customers
  • BMW has had a few more years to look at the reliability and safety of increasing boost on the M2. Maybe they now feel it's safe to do this with a factory tune.
I personally think it's still surprising that BMW would do this without making it a recommended update for all M2s, and without actually marketing it. You could probably explain the marketing aspect in that dealerships could be overwhelmed with customers trying to get their cars done, and there is obviously costs involved with this as well. It might also upset tuning companies that BMW ended up giving away an equivalent tune for free!

So after this flash, which cleared your adaption values by the way, you get just about what the max boost is on the car stock.

It did nothing.

Interested in hearing how this one plays out.

But I'm not sure I buy any argument of them increasing boost by that much. If it was to compete with m240/rs3 etc they would advertise the increase and market the LCI as a higher hp car. Otherwise it seems like there is nothing to gain from BMW from a business standpoint and decreased reliability as the potential outcome which could cost them more.

Driving adaptation settings is one thing, but it could be we are on really early firmware and that is why we are feeling a difference. I don't have a way of determining boost.

If you can't determine your boost, then you are selling us placebos. Want us to believe this, then get your car on some rollers and prove it on the dyno then. I read and searched the release notes at BMW while my friend who works there did my running in service and there are no changes for the f20 series, which the F87 falls under in the notes.
