But coding leaves the ASD control box in the audio path so can still impact the sound quality, the loopback cable bypasses it completely.

I did it and noticed no difference in the sound system, which admittedly I do not use a lot. Still, check it out for yourself (I will be making a better video soon) but the ASD seems to be turned off almost entirely.

PS: Sorry for reposting the video, I will make a better one as soon as I do the 2000kms service and can actually push the car.

And OP...I coded DVD in Motion...no speed limit..

Whoever coded it maybe made a mistake bc you do code @ what speed its disabled...Unless they locked that .dzt, i dunno...Let your coder know, or if you coded it, remember u have to activated step 1...step 2 determine what speed its diactivated and choose a high number where youll never go.

lmk findings.

I still don't know what this means.

Also, why does everyone code the door handle lights to come on in reverse?

To see the curb while parallel parking in poorly lit areas

Can't explain it any better than that... sorry but I think you are not trying hard enough because everyone else seems to get it.

As said "To see the curb while parallel parking in poorly lit areas" and also so that the car becomes more visible in parking lot manoeuvres.

We did try it but entering the deactivation speed had very random behaviours. Seemed like BMW made it on purpose not to allow it. Mine is a August build MY2017. Yours? Might be different versions of something...

Are you asking what Start/Stop is? Hopefully I'm not butchering this explanation, someone feel free to correct me:

Start/Stop seems to now be on most modern day vehicles. I believe car manufacturers are using it as a means to save fuel.

Have you noticed cars that have stopped at a light/stop sign that it sounds like it turns over again and the ignition fires up like as if they had just started the car? That's start/stop. Basically turns the engine off when you're idling at a light/stop sign. Then it will restart the engine when you give it some gas.

You can turn this off in the car so it doesn't do that, but the next time you drive your car, you have to turn it off again every time.

Basically the coding tells the car to remember your last setting for it ON or OFF.

This doesn't apply to North American cars, let me explain. Above the ignition button there is another smaller button to turn off the automatic engine deactivation (a.k.a. the start-stop) that turns off the engine when idling at say a stop sign or red light.

For US/Canada cars, once you press that button, the car remembers your setting and it will remain that way until you change it again - i.e. once it's off, it stays off until you press it again. This has something to do with NHTSA requirements for start-stop systems.

In most other international markets, once you press that button, the car will remember it for that one time, and will reset once you turn off the car. When you turn the car back on, you have to press it again. For 99% of M2 buyers, this is a huge PITA, as I presume most of us aren't using the feature.

So that is why most people code it, but we in NA don't have to worry about it.

In the US the setting sticks. In other markets you have to reselect the on every start.

I am familiar with it. Both my 328i and M2 already remember the last setting so I was assuming he was referring to something else. Maybe only the US cars remember by default?

Could be, yes. Emissions regulations in the EU are the devil.

Thanks, I should have read your post before I replied to the last one. I'm thinking of getting my car coded so I'm interested in these threads to see what my options are and what other people are doing. I know there's a very lengthy thread with spreadsheets and all that I need to dive into at some point. Until I started reading these forums, I didn't know coding was a thing. Now I'm thinking of getting all three of my Bimmers coded if only just to get rid of the nagging iDrive warning confirmation screen on start.

Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread. I realize it is supposed to be about ASD.
