My 2020 SO Comp started production

Hello All,
I've been lurking on the forums for some time now and I'm happy to announce I'll soon be joining the M2 Comp club! I got notice today that my 2020 Sunset Orange has started production! I am beyond excited and feel like I'm awaiting the arrival of a child. The whole build process has been quite a fun experience and I've never had the privilege of ordering a car and getting it spec'd exactly how I want it—although the wait is kind of excruciating.

I am coming from a 2017 440i. It is a great car and I have nothing bad to say about it but I felt I needed something a little more exciting and aggressive. I love the rarity of the M2 and hardly see any in my area (meanwhile there is a 4 series around every corner). I'll do an in-depth comparison of my experience with the two once I take delivery on my Comp. In the meantime, I'll continue to lurk and read all your experiences with this wonderful machine!

Mine stayed on production begins for 12 days, I checked My BMW status daily... on day 13 it jumped to Awaiting Carrier Assignment.

I was hoping to see the status change for each stage.

I wish in 13 more days it would jump to my driveway.

Interesting. I wonder if that's why my status hasn't changed. The sales associate that input my build put the wrong wheels on it. He built it with the black wheels and I requested him to make the change to silver. He stated he did but the black wheels are still listed under "standard features."

Mine's been in "production begins" for about a week, and I have seen past builds stay in that status anywhere from 7-12 days. Supposed to be a week 25 build (refers to week of completion) which is next week, so I'd expect it to start moving through the progress stages sometime this week.

same behavior here. Week 23 car, call the number and they say ETA is tomorrow. it's been in "production begins" about 2 weeks now, so I anticipate it doing the "jump to done" move tomorrow I hope..

Congratulations on joining "the club".
I finally picked mine up ED on June 5th. Yay!!!
It showed "Final assembly" from early May until the day I picked it up. Was actually completed on May 17th...
NOT very accurate.
It'll be ready as planned I'm sure.
Have fun with it👍🏻

Ok, WOW! As of yesterday, it was still saying "Production Begins." I look today and it jumped to "Quality Check." Can someone with past build experience tell me how long it took to take delivery from this point? The vehicle will have to ship to the US once complete. Thanks!

have you checked the tracking thread?

from the thread it looks like 11-30 days depending on where it is shipping to. I've also seen threads where people get stuck waiting for boats, customs, issues to be resolved

from the thread:

Quote:
Lastly, the timelines below are general, if everything goes as planned. There could always be delays if you get stuck in customs, or if your vehicle had some damage during shipping (repaired at VPC), etc.

-Build start (150) to build finish (155): 1-2 weeks.
-Build finish (155) to Scheduled for Carrier (182): 1 day.
-Status 182 to 190 (on a train to bremerhaven):1-3 days.
-Status 190 to 193 (at port awaiting a ship): 1-2 days.
-Status 193 to 195 (on a ship): 3-5 days for east coast delivery, 5-12 days for west coast delivery (more detail on this later)
-Shipping time from Bremerhaven to East Coast: 12-17 days depending on the number of stops.
-Shipping time from Bremerhaven to West Coast: About 30 days.
-Offload at port: 1 day
-Processing through customs: 1-2 days
-Process through BMW Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) and onto a carrier: 2-5 days.
-Shipping time on carrier to Dealership: 1-4 days.
good luck waiting!

what would you rather do..

wait 2+ months for an ordered car or take one off the lot that has been test driven by who knows who and who knows how? Same spec, same price.

I prefer the wait because I want to be the one to break in the car properly. To be honest, the whole process has been fun and I enjoyed picking out the options. Even the wait has built anticipation and excitement.

me too though I cannot lie, the temptation to be impulsive was so strong after the test drive I almost signed for an HS right there..

but now.. I've waited long enough. a full month. I'm ready for it now

Congratulations! Do you know what production week you were quoted? I'm lined up for an ED in mid-late-ish July myself and was told week 27. Been going crazy just watching my build progress.

I am just back from my ED. If anyone is interested in doing ED, pm me. My CA tells me he has an allocation.
