Price Check
I'm looking for the following,
2017 White M2 DCT Executive Package 20-30k miles. I don't need a super low mileage car as I drive less than 5,000 a year. Looking around it seems like this is around 40k. What would be a fair offer on a car like this? Brand new 2018s seem to be going for ~50k so is 40k high for a used car? Also, this will be my first time buying used, would I need a pre inspection done on a 2017 car?

I think 30k miles you're looking at 40k or even high 30's. Teens to 20k miles maybe 41-42. If it's a private seller you might be able to find a better deal but dealer probably not. As a data point I traded in my 2017 with 9k miles last October for 47K and they probably sold it for 50 but prices have dropped a lot since.

I would do a pre-inspection on any used car. You are looking for modifications and for accident damage. Not all damage shows up on a carfax report.

Where do you do a "pre-inspection"? Typically you will find a used M2 somewhere not in your neighborhood as there aren't a whole lot so bringing it to your local mechanic is not always feasible.

the pricing on the M2's seems to be all over the price. If you look on autotrader and car gurus there 2017s with 9k for 44k...2017 with 24k miles for 44k.
i would wait a few more months until the 2016/2017s come back from lease and you'll see a more stablized pricing. Right now, i think dealers just price used M2's at how ever hot they think the M2 is in their market. |

Not only was it a great deal, because of the big discount I was able to lease it. The 48,000 included the 4250 offered by bmw and 750 for loyalty. Drove it home, 1400 miles total. Taking it in for break in service tomorrow. Couldn't be happy with the car

It was a great deal, I flew up to New York and the entire flight I thought I'd get there and find something terribly wrong with it or they'd try to change the deal.

lets say the OG M2 stays at around 44k even with the lease returns adding to the supply. Carmax already had a M2c for 58k...lets say end of the year you see M2c at around 52k.
maybe we're better off waiting till end of the year and just get a 1yr used M2c. |

To me, the allure of the the M2 is the small form factor, light weight, styling and perfect engine. I've had the F80 M3 and thought it was too much power. I can only imagine what that would be like on an M2. Increased weight plus what I believe to be worse looking, I'd stick with the OG.

If the delta is only like 7k it might be worth it just to get the M2c with the s55 engine and m4 seats. I'm hoping the M2 OG will follow the e92 m3 depreciate scale but i think the depreciation line won't be as steep as the e92 since the M2 2016-2017 supply seems kinda low compared to early e92 m3 numbers. |

This isn't the type of car which is going to appreciate in value, unless you're talking in 20-30 years and the car is in mint condition, THEN you might have a negligible interest from super enthusiasts. |
