M2 crash - Owner warning
Hi all owning or future owners of a M2! I have a story which I like to share, to avoid what I am so desesparate about will not happen to you.
So I bought a brand new M2 LCI last Dec which was delivered in Feb 2018, I had no intention to drive the car in winter(Switzerland) and left the car for several weeks in garage, car was equiped with Conti sp3. My brand new M2 was a third car, just bought for weekend drives, which I finally drove on mountain passes only. An the car was great, I drove through several all kind of passes in the Alps for more than 9000km. Last sunday, one turn driving sport+, lost control at turn exit and could not bring back the car on road, hit badly small trees on the side ... as a result insurance expert declared the car full dammage, it was too expensive to repear it ... that is for the story Now ... I am so pissed against mysekf that I thought I try to share some of my learnings for you M2 owner still enjoying your car; 1) Tires - just don't push them to the limit, as soon as 2mm from limit, go buy new ones !!! 2) Road conditions - the crash happened when it was very very hot, I got the info that road concrete swet amd becomes really slippery in this hot conditions 3) Power - The M2 is a very powerfull car that feels safe, but if you push it to the limit, just ensure you took lessons and calculate space to get it back if you loose the rear Hope this will help |

Sorry for your lost.. M2C time?
I read there was an article that Michelin Super Sport tires which use to come stock on the M2 has been reported as the cause of many M2s losing control in Germany, especially when it's rainy. Insurance companies and government regulators even got involved.. That's why BMW switched to Continentals.. |

Sorry to hear.
I had a low speed tap to the bumper and it's replacement with slight hood/front fender damage came to almost $5,000. I just put a set of Michelin PILOT SPORT 4S tires on last month after the Continentals it came with went noisy/cupping after 10,000 miles (no track). TireRack rated it Excellent/1st in all the tested categories. The 4S wasn't yet listed on the BMW dealer availability list, but the service manager was able to source it thru TireRack. I even got a $70 rebate debit card. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...r=#testResults |

So sorry to hear this but glad nobody was hurt. Its just a car, now you can go pick another! And thanks for the feedback, its a wake-up call we can all heed. I fully acknowledge this car is more powerful than I am formally skilled.

First and foremost, sorry this happened but this is a driver error issue not a tire issue. I lost the tire lottery and got the Contis, they sucked but were not dangerous. At 10,000 miles I switched to the 4s which is a superior tire in every way but any tire can be overdriven it is the drivers responsibility to stay within the limits of the conditions, their skill and the ability of the car to maintain traction and control.
Not to pick on you but if your going to drive a high powered sports car you should invest in some driving instruction at a track. My best performance investments haven't been mods to my car it has been 2 Day M School and Advanced M School. Sounds like neither you nor anyone else got hurt so its just a matter of replacing a car and learning from the experience so it could be far worse. |

I was a paramedic many years ago and the old cars would hold up better to crash but all of the energy was transferred to the driver so people would get destroyed in pretty small crashes. These days the car gets totaled and the drivers walk away. Pretty easy choice between the two scenarios.

They didn't switch - they just added a second tire supplier starting with MY2017.

Totally false. First tires don't cause cars to lose control when its rainy, drivers do! Second Conti was added because Michelin was switching to the 4S and could guarantee an adequate supply of PSS on BMW's time frame so to ensure production was not interrupted, for your made up theory to make sense BMW would have stopped producing the M2, M3 and M4 with the PSS tires which they haven't. The Contis that come with the M2 are the only other BWW "star" tire that was available at the time. |

Sorry for your loss, OP, but thanks for sharing your story! It should serve as a warning to everyone that we are driving a rather powerful vehicle!
I was driving my daughter to her school bus, around six in the morning and not a soul in sight... (I was in a loaner M2.... hadn't received mine yet) Hit the throttle, and the car shot forward, then began to fish tail back and forth! Fortunately, there wasn't anyone else on the road and I didn't hit anything, but it is easy to forget how powerful these are when you drive them every day, without any incident! As others have said, as long as you are uninjured, the car can be replaced! Thanks again, and drive safely! |

That is not a street tire and you want to get some heat in those so they have some grip, they are less safe when cold.
