It will be more and I am getting the Comp car. I am planning on the car being 10k more with all options Vs. my 17 exec dct car.

I totally agree. Even more than last week they offer me a new M2 LCI available with a ticket price very very close to the dealership's buying price.
It's the third offer in one month.

So I'm not surprised at all if they are waiting the last minute to launch the new M2. Sounds logical as well.

I agree, but don't forget the delivery time of the new M2 Competition. Even if we are speaking about the successor model, the delivery waiting time can exceed 5 months. So even after the announcement of the new model by BMW, the actual M2 LCI will continue to be ordered by the customers (cheaper as M2 competition, less waiting time (maybe on stock), some high discount ..).

Yes delivery time... But for me longer you wait better it will be!
And seeing GT4's price starting to drop now I think it's even more interesting to wait a bit longer.

Wait too long and cheap N55s will be snatched up maybe. Surely there will be cheap lightly used ones though if you can't get a new N55 M2.

Is anybody able to clarify whether 'standard' M2 production will switch to the S55 engine in 2018? Just thinking what that may do to the residual values of existing N55 engined M2s? If so, I may look to sell mine rather sooner than later and put my name down for a S55 M2 - either in 'standard' version or CS derivative. I'm kind of hoping BMW will stick with the N55 engine for the standard version through to the end of current production (2020?) and save the S55 engine for the more hardcore derivatives - CS and GTS/CSL.

Standard opinion is that the N55 will reach the end of production in summer 2018. Once the S55 "takes over" , there will be no more standard but only a "Competition" (Not a CS).

Must have been mentioned ten times in this thread alone.

Don't know why you should sell your perfectly fine N55 just because of the S55. Apart from some fancy options and power that is.

Cheers

OK thanks. In fairness, my first post having joined the forum today. I'll know next time to read through (53 pages - jikes!) before asking silly questions. I'm a little sensitive to potential residual value losses by BMW having bought a zero mileage, nearly new dealer pre-reg M4 just before BMW launched the Competition Pack upgrades. I collected current M2 in March 2017 (having been on a waiting list for 5 months) just before BMW announced the LCI action, this on a car that was only launched in April 2016. Now it seems that BMW will retire the M2 N55 engine mid 2018. I work for Ford so I'm fortunate that I don't have to worry about residual losses on my daily company car. I bought the M4 then M2 as they tick boxes the Ford range doesn't - 2 door coupe, 6 cylinder 3.0 turbo, DCT (in my case) and rear wheel drive (Mustang doesn't do it for me). I'm therefore sensitive to residual value losses. Seems to me BMW need to be more careful with looking after existing customers and not always just chasing new ones. See how Porsche manage residual values by comparison. If I take a big hit on my M2 at the end of my 2 year PCP then I'll vote with my feet and go elsewhere.

Welcome to Bimmerpost.

If you are a serial leasing buyer , you'll probably definitely hit some pitfalls when buying certain vehicles in any marque. Over the last 3-5 years the BMW M3 and M4 have been leased similarly to the Honda Accord. Sell em like hot cakes and keep owners making payments by flipping them into new ones. As a matter of fact .. cellular phones have a similar sales model.

Any new lease customer IS a new customer from the perspective of the manufacturer.

The M2 is not a good lease option, it hasn't been since it came on the market. Residuals for that and the 1M were absolutely atrocious compared to the bread and butter E9x M3 and F8x M3 and M4.

Hi guys, I own a first-series M2 (collected in August 2016), and wanted to switch to the M2 Competition... but I changed my mind (and it is not a money issue).

I think the current N55 is unique, is not a standard N55 like the one you find in any 35i vehicle. OK it is derived from the standard N55 with sone S55’s parts... but also 70% of the S55 comes from the N55.

This tuned N55 is more rare than both the standard N55 ans S55, and its sound is fantastic – just compare M3/M4/M4 Convertible numbers with M2 numbers.

Of course the S55 is more powerful... but power is not alway the most important thing. Also the Audi TTRS is quicker than the curent M2... but the feeling you get from the M2 is unique... a true old school car that makes you feel happy.

Just my opinion

Well guys the 'arms race" between the sports car manufacturers means a win for us all.

With Audi, Porsche and Jaguar upping their game, bringing a new or revised model to market every two to three years keeps your brand in front of prospective buyers - many whom take 1 to 2 years of reading, research and test drives before buying a new sports car.

Porsche will soon announce the new Cayman GT4 with a naturally aspirated 400 hp 4.0L V6 and for the first time, the availability of PDK in the GT4. BMW needs a reply and a revised and more powerful M2 is the answer.

The car mags & blogs will cover these new offerings in all their glory, that is the best advertising that a car company can ask for.

For me, the new 2018 M2 LCI hit all the right buttons and replaced my low mileage, "afraid of the rain" 2015 Porsche 911 GTS, with a fun car for all-year round driving.

I am still breaking in the M2 and don't see a need for more performance (for me) but will enjoy the view from the sidelines as the new model(s) roll out. I am sure for those that do purchase the rumored CS it will be declared as the best M2 ever!

Quite likely also the BMW M2 section over here at Bimmerpost generates free publicity for BMW and BMW M.

Probably BMW and BMW M appreciate the brand enthusiasm, friendship and knowledge exchange between kindred spirits over here.

Why didn't you get a Carrera 4 then instead?

Rear seats more practical than a parcel shelf would be my guess

Z8 is a parts bin car? How so? Isn't the body completely unique?

The M3 CS just seems like a front-lip and rear trunk spoiler...tuning?

Interior was basically the same...or looked like the GTS actually.

$97k for M3 CS - Amazing how ‘affordable’ the N55 base M2 is currently.

and that sad parts bin car is priced at $90k+

I won't be surprised when M2 Competition comes out with MSRP $70k+.

I'd be willing to bet $5k that it won't have an MSRP over $70k USD if you would want to put money on it

Huh? I didn't say Cayman... Sure, it's not a full 4 seater like the M2, but the Carrera is a 2+2. What do you mean?
