Disadvantage of Adding Spacers to Setup?
I am adding a winter wheel square set 18x8 ET29 for my winter wheel setup. According to the fitment calculator, the front will be set in from the fender about 12.7mm and the rears 14.4 less. I’m thinking about adding 12.5mm spacers to the front and rear for visual appearance. Aside from being even further from the inside strut, what are the disadvantages of this?
Wondering if I should put 12.5 spacers in front and 14 in rear also... Last edited by mscdman; 10-11-2019 at 05:08 AM.. |

Changes scrub radius hence puts more load onto suspension and steering components; effects your insurance premiums; too wide esp at the rear in your case and you will rub tyre outer shoulder and fender

Would any size spacer bring it out to look more stock and not cause the rubbing? |

The picture above shows a tyre that is wider for the rim than the summers. That helps fills the gap to arch even with rim set back. Best get them fitted first then decide if you want spacers. I put square winters on my old E91 335i. Ended up going for 10mm on the rear only, but again depends on tyre brand as shoulder widths are different even at same stated size. |
