Pitt Race w PCA

Gents - a few pic from today; weather started in the low 60s with rain during the first session. Fortunately we saw the rain move to the NE and we made it through the next three 25 minutes sessions without rain. With the track drying out and figuring out the last few coins turns the have give me trouble early on, times have dropped from 2:14, to 2:08 - 2:04 and 2:02.8 in the last session. Weather should stay dry and partially sunny Saturday and Sunday, so track temps and traction should continue to improve.

You made up a lot of ground into the entry for 17!

Nice driving.

I see you took the wide F1 line through there!

I haven't made it to Pitt yet, but when I get back to the States I will for sure. How did the brakes hold up? Thanks for sharing and good work!

I am still in MDM, so the brakes start fading after 15 mins or so. Will work with my instructor on getting into the DSC land today. Should make a lot of difference in terms of preserving the brakes. Should have a lot of traction coming out of the slow turns (7? and 17), as they are both uphill sections. Running 275s out back, which should also help and I will drop pressures down a bit in the rear to help w traction. Will target 36/34 F/R hot.

Also managed to turn my front calipers green and melt the glue off all my wheel weights.

Other than The obvious mistake on the brakes that’s really well driven. No huge chunks of time on the table but keep pushing to get back to the gas quickly and you’ll get under 2:00.

Welcome to the M2 green brake club. Next stop, black. At least black looks better.

Well, made the leap and switched off DSC halfway through the first session. Started to feel the car coming around a bit in turns 5 and 17 as expected, but the car was planted and the 275s did a good job keeping traction to the ground. Also kept in in auto mode and noticed how much more aggressive the downshift were especially coming into those two corners. Starting to find the flow...

Yeah, once you find the limits with DSC off, you realize how easy to drive and controllable the car is at the limit.

DSC Off uses Sport-style throttle, steering, and DCT mapping, while MDM is Comfort-style, so things like downshifts will be more aggressive.

Just note your steering rate is quicker with DSC Off, so you’ll need to remap your brain/hands to keep things smooth.

I'd like to get a custom mode coded that slow down the shifts (they feel jerky at times), and keep everything else the same. I prefer the faster steering ratio, but that may change once the suspension tightens up. The faster steering in DSC off allows me to make adjustments quickly as the car rolls and moves through the turn.

What kind of tape do you have over the wheel weights? I need to do that.

Congrats on turning off DSC! That is a big step, and I feel you are certainly ready to do so based on how you are driving, etc. This will also help keep your brakes from heating up so fast as well giving you better all-around braking longer into the session. Once you hit a certain point in your driving you must turn DSC to progress, and to keep from frying your brakes.

Thanks isjoey

Had one minor 'scare' coming out 5 chasing a TT RS and the rear end stepped out on me, but quickly caught it and corrected by lifting off and steering into the slide. Good news is that it didn't really rattle me and I kept on motoring.

That will happen, how else are you going to learn. The thing is just taking your time feeling things out, smooth with the hands and feet. Where the traction control light blinked remember the take it easier at that turn, etc. until you learn how the car responds, etc.
