Every single BMW until my current E90 M3 DCT was a 5MT/6MT, and I do NOT miss driving a manual mainly because of Washington DC traffic

The "thrill" of 6MT was replaced by "rowing" through the gears every time I hit traffic and given DC is Top 5 worst in the nation that really got old

Now when I go out to take a drive I have noticed I no longer check for traffic conditions anymore, I just go out and enjoy

AT doesn't have to be 'out of control'. You can put the 8AT into sport mode and control your shifts completely.

I only miss the manual once I step out of the car. Once I get back in to the the car and start rowing my own gears again....I don't miss it anymore.

Bought an M4 today because it had a manual. RS-5 is nice, but I'm just not ready to have someone do that part for me yet

Have those, too. Makes me realize I've never owned a car with a hand-crank starter!

Every car I've owned was a manual until I got an E92 M3. I looked for at least 9 months for a manual and finally gave in and bought one with DCT. I always drove it in manual mode and it was fine, but... At least 1/yr it had a new leak. After replacing all the seals twice each I gave up. I've always hated automatics, can't stand the fact that when you take your foot off the brake they start to move, DCT didn't do that so my major complaint was gone. We have an old X3 with a manual and were so bummed when the quit making them with a manual.

Always manual for me. Shifting is just too much fun.

Seems like a lot of people had manual cars for years and then lost the passion. I sure hope that doesn't happen to me one day (can't imagine it being the case). The engagement you get from a manual transmission simply cannot be replicated by an automatic. I guess it's something you either love/appreciate or you don't.

Having moved over to AT, mostly 8sp I rarely miss driving manual. That being said i do use the paddles a lot on my 435D but it can, and never will replace a manual transmission.

Yes, and no.

So because I can't choose one or the other, I went with both:
Slushbox for the daily commute, manual for the Saturday/Sunday car (modified Miata).

Solves all the problems with either.

Can hold a coffee cup while driving to work, and have the precise control and connectivity with the machine of a manual on the weekends.

I used to not mind rowing the gears in traffic when I was younger - but that was long ago.
