Oh don't offer any proof, this crowd is the "it's not possible" crowd.

I think what they actually mean is that the JDM crowd is a bit different than the GDM crowd; they don't do warranty claims for every little detail that isn't perfect.

Yes. And everyone upgraded them to stainless steel.

It's hilarious really. And yes, I did the same on my WRX.

This was the reason I didn't paint mine and left it alone. (That and I actually got used to it, and don't mind the stock silverly muffler.)

I'll probably end up getting a new REMUS Sport exhaust later, so the stock muffler will be gone anyway.

A friend of mine had painted the muffler of his M2C with heat-resistant paint. Looked cool. However, it started already flaking after a month or so. When I saw it IRL it was some sort of polka dots galore mess. Way worse as eyesore than the original. When I asked him some time later if he had repainted the muffler he told me that he had solved the issue by replacing the OEM M2C exhaust with an aftermarket exhaust.

I wouldn't do it with a spray can at home

Exhaust suppliers to BMW can def do it properly...ceramic coating + high temp oven = long lasting coating but add cost

Or, you can just double down; if you're going to keep it unpainted and let your proverbial balls hang out, may as well make them shine:
