You can go to aircraftspruce and get the 2.5" flange, use a holesaw to cut a hole in stock backing plate and then rivet the flange in. Then in winter just remove the ducts and hoses if you want.

I like this solution a lot. Looks like it may be more effective than the Porsche ducts to me. Great job Magnus.

There is a point with the hose going at a 90 degree angle up from the scoop. I first used Lightweights kit with their scoops where the hose goes out straight out of the back of the scoop. I ended up with leaves and crap stuck in the hose with that setup. Have not had that problem at least yet with my own scoops.

I do still use the backing plate from Lightweight but it's pretty easy to make your own by making a hole and welding on a short 60mm tube on the original backing plate to connect the hose to.
You have the lightweight backiing plates??? how come you made your outlet 60mm when the Lightweight one is 76mm (not 100% certain).

I remixed your scoop to go directly to 76mm. My printer is being an A hole though and having trouble with such a long print.

That is odd, my Lightweight backing plates came with 60mm hoses!

Well I bought these from 55parts that look exactly the same...

https://55parts.de/collections/m-mod...bremsbeluftung

and started printing in ABS which made all the difference!

Pics are thanks to Kankles who is running the 1st protos.

These work with 18" wheels

Anyone run without dust shields?

The new C8 and Porsches don't have them. I was thinking about taking them off during the summer, back on in the winter.

These carbon shields are smaller than stock and have the hose port. Not sure which would keep brakes cooler, this set up or just running no shield.

It'll help but not as much as forced air cooling. I plan to sell my scoops so for a little cash you could add forced cooling. Combine the scoops with the hacked shields and locally sourced hoses for a $100-150 solution.

I also plan to make some air deflectors for the rear brakes. Like the GT3 scoops used in DE.

Nice :-)

The Lightweight shields are quite different in design on some details, so these you got are from some other manufacturer, but yours look very very well done :-)

Magnus, do you have a link to purchase the Lightweight backing plates? I can't find their website anywhere, it's bizarre, and I bought a lip from them a couple years back! Thank you

I just can't help but wonder if CF is safe to be so close to such a hot surface? The weight savings over an equivalent metal piece probably can't be that much?

The heat is no problem. But I agree 100% that aluminium shields are absolutely as good and much cheaper. I doubt there is any weight saving whatsoever compared to a very thin aluminium shield. But I got these for a very very very good deal.

Same for me, the CF ones ended up being cheaper than any metal ones on offer.

They also blew air into the hat more than any of the other designs and retained most of the backing to protect the susp. Bushings.

Not worried about the CF catching fire. If that happens you probably had way worse problems going on. CF also does not ignite that readily from my quick search.

There is a very similar part for a Camaro for the same function. A bit cheaper at $18 for a pair. https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/g...-84145204.html

I have my front ones removed on my M2 and also didn't used them on past dual purpose cars I've tracked over the last 20 years.

Never had issues on or off the track with any negative effects. Easy mod that takes no time and cost zero. There was a Company in Europe that measured Caliper temps after track sessions before and after removing shields from an M2 and the difference was in the 60C range (If memory serves). Unsure how scientific that test was but at least a data point to consider.

And holy crap ppl are making fake endless brake pads now ?!?!?!

EDIT: I always heard the dust shields also work as heat shields to protect suspension components. Did you ever notice any accelerated wear?

in the linked blog post they recommend to remove this part:

what is that part initially good for and did anyone remove this as well?

Its there for fuel economy / aero. It diverts air from the turbulent wheels and under the car or out the sides.

I did not remove it as my brake scoops are lower and this does not impact the flow to them.

I did remove the 2nd further forward lip (M2C has this not sure on OG) as I needed to for my chin spoiler. I think most lip spoilers are deeper and block these guys anyways.
