Picked up my dct lbb yesterday. I feel I'm still breaking the car in so the clutch feels "robotic" or stiff. I remember I loved it in my e92 so I'll just give it time. It's funny, I find manual most enjoyable when leisurely driving and not when it's necessarily a sports car. The dct is so addicting when driving more aggressive but kind of boring in casual driving

This is, by far, the best 6MT from BMW I`ve ever driven (and I used to have a E46 M3, E92 M3, E82 1M) it is realy miles ahead of these former 6MT`s.

As told by some members overhere, and I do agree on that, the clutch is too light, it lacks feeling, it engages too high.

But the shifter and shift actions are perfect IMO, the throws are short, direct and precise, the rubbery feeling some are having noticed is IMHO due to not a fully depressed clutch or move the shifter to early ! I is a very refined machinery, this MT, I know one thing fore sure, if it feels rubbery, you are doing it wrong !

It is also true it makes a lot of RPM`s, topspeed 6th gear is 6,5K RPM, compared with my 1M that did 5,5K RPM topspeed. It`s somewhat short geared it seems.

I think the advantages in having a DCT are 1) being able to always left foot brake and 2) being able to pretend to be a race car driver while pulling paddles in traffic. Granted it will be faster at the drags, but if I wanted a drag car it wouldn't be an M2!

To address the topic of this thread, I voted that I'm thrilled with my 6MT. Agreed with bi0hazard that even with spending plenty of time in traffic I am not bothered.

Seems to be an overrepresentation of DFW on these boards! I'm shooting for a LBB 6MT via ED in the spring; got my trip arranged hopefully the car will be available when the time comes. Ironically, I'd only buy MT for the street, but one of my race cars is an automatic... less driver workload and left foot braking of course, enabling braking later/deeper.

I don't have one, but much prefer the MT over the DCT. Hell I only got to drive it for 20 miles and I loved it.

It's like you said. If it was strictly performance then sure, DCT all the way. But the gentleman who let me drive his is certainly a track rat - and he LOVES his 6MT.

I drove a e92 DKG in city traffic for a week...when driving around town you soon stop shifting in manual mode and after a couple of days the novelty wears off and you simply stick it in D. On track the DCT really shines, but on the street you can not get the best enjoyment out of it (personal opinion).

I would never have purchased an M2 if a manual were not available. Period.

The stock 6 speed stick is a bit imprecise for my taste and I'm seriously considering a short shift kit, probably the Rogue Engineering version. I hate to start chopping a new car but the stick is a key part of the driving experience and if it needs tuning, well then, I guess I have to tune it.

Well, I am a current 11' 335xi MT M-Pkg. owner. I have been contemplating a new purchase and an M240 or M2 have been getting a lot of my attention. As I like smaller cars, I have been somewhat frustrated with BMW's 335's getting bigger. So, my interest in the 2 series is peaked. Every car I purchased since 1995 has been AWD/X-drive with MT. My problem is that the M235/240's with x-drive have AT only and of course you can't get X-drive in the M2. I would agree with previous poster's who have discussed the fact the MT are more engaging, hence generally more fun to drive. I was very close to getting an M240 with x-drive and then discover it was only available with an automatic transmission. What a bummer! I am hopeful that the 2018 LCI may bring x-drive with MT, or I could POSSIBLY be convinced to purchase an x-drive DCT, but that also is not available in the current iteration. If you truly "like" to drive, MT is the only way to go. Unfortunately, it looks as if I will be sticking with my 335xi for the time being. I do enjoy and like my 335, but I am interested in getting some of the new tech and increased performance. But my vote would be MT.

I think that was zenmaster's point. Opinions as to whether people regretted MT decisions on M2s are not terribly valuable if they come from people who haven't bought and driven MT M2s....

DCT owner here. If you do not have alot of traffic in your commutes or its not a DD, do yourself a favor and get 6spd. I went with DCT and its a love/hate relationship as it was with 6spd in NYC. During the week Im happy with DCT, on the weekends I wish I went with manual. Grass is always greener on the other side I guess

Having previously owned the Audi/VW variation, DSG, I won't go back, unless I have no other choice. The manual in this car is so easy to drive, it won't even stall in 1st gear if you let out on the clutch and don't give it gas, it will hit the throttle for you. It has hill assist, etc. Some may say what is the point then?

I like being a necessary part of the equation when driving. In a DCT, I feel that it is a couple of sensors and modules away from being able to drive itself. In a 6MT, I am a necessary part of the process. Some of that process has been made easier, but one of the most important parts still requires my input.

Do you actually think that a bunch of people with zero experience voted and skewed the results? I'm with you in the fact that there are click happy people who would do that but I would hope my faith in humanity is served that it would be very far and few between. I myself will be driving my 6MT next tuesday and having followed this thread since it opened will be voting sometime next week.
