wow some of y'all are spending $300+ on a helmet. I get the cheapest proper snell rated can for my skull. Usually around $120. To each his own though! Bell is the brand i usually go for.

Splurged on a Stilo St-5
I am new to tracking my car and only have my first HPDE session booked. I needed a helmet and went to Discovery Parts at AMP (Atlanta Motorsports Park) because you have to try them on. I was interested in an affordable open face helmet and had no idea about the snell date rating. If I ordered online I would have bought the helmet that was $800 off because it was a “good deal” and been disappointed when I learned that it was only good for this year because it was a Snell2010 helmet. After trying Bell, Arai, G-Force and Stand-21, the Stilo fit my head the best which was the ultimate deciding factor. At close to $1000 it is a hard pill to swallow, but when you break that down by 10 years, it is a small fraction of your expense for any one day at the track.

A few additional thoughts from my own search: Full face helmets are much safer for airbag cars, and often also a little more head room for some reason. Don't get a motorcycle helmet - many sanctioning bodies deny them. Our local BMWCCA chapter loans helmets and they may let you trial some to find a fit. Definitely want to try them if possible - different brands cater to different head shapes. I had no local shops, but some vendors will ship you several to trial if you are going to buy one of them (DK if covid has nixxed that; I worked w/ Northstar Motorsports and they were great about sending options to trial). I ended up with a Bell and love it, but it is all about the fit (kinda starting to lust after a Stilo, but haven't tried one on).

I spent the money and went Arai Gp-7 since I wont have to replace it for quite some time since it has the newest rating. Very happy with the choice

I just saw that New Jersey events have officially expired Snell 2010 helmets. Make sure you now have the 2015 rating for any track/autocross event at NJMP or wherever in the state.
Fortunately I just picked up a Roux full face helmet with a 2015 rating, although I've yet to use it at an event. I believe most other locations allow the 2010 for 1 more year. https://www.rouxhelmets.com/r-1c

A decent full face helmet these days is about $500.
I need to replace my Stilo soon Its got one year left. Love the helmet, great fit and the ventilation is outstanding. Get a Stilo! Also a shameless plug to the gang at HMS. They know HPDE & Racing safety as well as anyone in the US and offer lots of selection: https://www.hmsmotorsport.com/products/helmets Best, HAZMAT

Sparco Pro open face with peak, fhr posts & intercom (I tarmac rally). It's light, reasonably cool & importantly doesn't look like a salad bowl.
Stilo & Sparco are the best on the market imo. Buy from a race/rally Motorsport specific manufacturer not a bike helmet.
