Does anybody not use their back seats? Wanna trade? (near Toronto)

I'm down in Cleveland OH. Should be getting my 2018 in late Sept / early Oct.

In the US, our rear seats are a 60-40 split and there's no option to choose otherwise.

Our buddies up North get the 40-20-40 option, which gives you a rear center cupholder and passthrough option.

Assuming it's possible, I'd like to try to trade rear seatbacks with someone who has this. I'd be willing to throw in some cash on top of the deal to sweeten it.

Anybody interested? I'd think Hamilton / Niagara Falls area would be the closest to me, but I'm guessing my best bet at finding an M2 owner would be Toronto.

I suppose it would be possible to ship the seatbacks instead, especially if a Canadian doesn't drive their car in winter, but mine will be a DD so I can't really give up my rear seats until I get your set and make sure that they will install without anything special happening. (From the parts diagrams, it looks like all of the attachment points are the same, but this is uncharted territory...) Shipping would be pretty pricey given the size and weight too, I'm guessing.

I would need it to be another M2 owner and not a regular 2er because I want to keep the blue stitching.

It wouldn't be compatible because you don't have the mechanism for the middle latches/hooks to operate the passthrough.

The only part that looks different for the middle section is a trim piece in the center, that I assume could be swapped along with the seats themselves. The only way this wouldn't work is if the body is somehow built differently for the loadthrough seats, which I find highly unlikely...

Load through-diagrams (Canada-spec):

And 60-40 diagrams:

(Yes, I know those are taken from the Euro version of the catalog - I checked part numbers and they are identical either way.)

Also, I love that they call the little storage bin between the back seats the "oddments tray" on the parts list.

Hmm interesting. I didn't think the US M2's came fitted with the little release latch for the middle portion in the trunk. Would you mind checking just for my own curiosity?

If the latch is there then yes, you could in theory do the swap.

PS: why the f*ck would Canadian cars get it but not US ones??? This has never made any sense to me...much like how BMW North America only covers the US (we have BMW Canada and there's BMW Mexico...)

When I get the car I'll definitely follow up... I'm week 37 so probably won't have it until late September.

Per this diagram, there doesn't seem to be a separate release for the middle from the back? Not saying you don't have one though, but I would expect it to be on here since the other releases are shown (For left & right)? On my old 2008 Golf, it was 60-40 but had a load-through. The back of the load-through section that was entirely contained within that section.

This is a UK image with the same seats as you (linked due to size), I don't see a separate release from the trunk side for the center - just the left & right cable releases (which are already in the US cars). It looks like the only way to swing down just the load-through is by doing it from inside the cabin, per this image.

This has apparently been something that other 2er owners are interested in as well...

I have no worldly idea whyTF BMW doesn't at least offer this seat option in the US. I would've paid an extra $300-500 for it... but it's not even an option.

Apparently E90 guys have done the switch by purchasing the parts separately (damn Photobucket has made the thread worthless)... Not sure if they are all available for a 2er though.

Any updates on this project? Very curious to know if it will work. Also interested in trading my 60/40s.

I'm interested but I don't think anybody north of the border wants our inferior seats.
