I don't know, he just tells me when he gets allotments of rare cars like the m3 and m2. I can give you his info and you can email or text him and ask if you want.

Why is the black color unchangeable? Are all the options unchangeable as well?

It's a non-configurable launch/demo car and it's probably already produced or in production currently. I would imagine that options are not changeable either. My CA originally had a non-configurable allocation (AW/DCT) that he swapped with another dealer in the area to get a configurable allocation.

Edit: Allocations are being released as 50% non-configurable and 50% configurable.

CONTACT dealer.. And then see if you can get the options you want..
it seems fairly likely that this CAN happen but first you need to get hold of an allocation..

Hmm, I wonder why my dealer had to swap allocations with another dealer if that is the case...I don't really know enough about the process.

On another note, are you getting an M2? If so, are you keeping the 1M?

I was referring to the same... I have one friend that has already switched his order.. and another that is working on doing the same. In both cases the dealer plan was to swap their allocations with another dealer.. it seems that is more LIKELY that this can happen than NOT..

I am keeping the 1M. if I didn't have a 1M I would be doing ED for an M2 for sure..
Overall though... I see the comparison as follows..

1M has the following advantages over the M2

mechanical steering
manual seats (I am a track guy so helmet headroom matters!)
lower curb weight ( I don't believe the EU weight)
higher resale value
exclusivity
more of a driver's car ( just like the E36M3 is WAY faster than an E30 M3 ... one of them is a much more FUN car to drive)

I gave up an E30 M3 after 17 years for something special.. the 1M... E36 M3, E46 M3 and E90 M3 didn't cut it for me (last one too heavy).
At this point.. I can only see trading or selling my 1M for something like an M2 CSL... perhaps a Cayman GT4 (cant afford) or (ok.. now I hate to admit .. perhaps a GT350 track package but then I would wake up and realize I don't want a 3600 lb car..

I am convinced that an M2 GTS or CSL will be announced in the next six months...
I am confident that the " updated M235i racing " with tacked on body panels seen last fall was testing for the M2 CSL/GTS..

If I had the 1M I would do the same. I agree that the 1M will continue to appreciate or as a minimum hold its value so there is really no reason to get rid of a car like that. I missed out on the 1M so I am going with the M2

M Cars are made in low numbers.

Neither of those two cars are rare. Not the M3 nor the M2.

People who pay to much will make the resale value better for the rest of us.

Do you know where that AW/DCT went? I'm looking for one in that configuration.

are you in Chicago waiting for a car, or in Chicago and Looking for a car ?

There is a black DCT launch car available at a dealer, it's been mentioned in some of these threads. You can also pick up the phone and call other dealers (recommend you avoid big cities ) and see if their initial allocation has been sold yet..

You are right that rural/ small town is the way to go.

I'm in Chicago loosely looking for a car. Im am not interested in any market adjustment . Heck not even interested in sticker but would be willing to pay sticker . Lol

The auto show is around the corner here which will probably give me the buying bug.
