Do you think my X1 is totaled?

Update:My car is totaled!
Thank you so much for everyone who shared your thoughts and gave me advice. I really appreciated that! Just received a call from my insurance company, the estimated cost is about 18k which exceed 70% of the car value. Apparently the damage is severed than it looks.

Hit a deer on highway at 70mph. Luckily nobody got hurt.
Haven’t hear back from the body shop and insurance yet. I really hope my insurance company can offer me total loss at this point. Because before the accident, I am selling my car. Do you think my car is totaled?

Hard to say really. Did the airbags deploy?

I dont think it is. But it's really depends on the adjuster and the shop.

Hard to tell from one photo. The general rule of thumb on when a car gets totaled is if the repair costs meet or exceed 75% of the market value of the car. So look up what your car is worth on the retail used market and take 75% of that value. This number will be what the body shop estimate would need to exceed for the car to be a total loss.

Doesn't look like airbags deployed.
Doubt they’ll total. Hood, bumper, fender, headlight, possibly radiator (something leaking or deer juice), and some misc bits.

Sucks for sure. Glad you’re okay.

Did you hit a 10pt deer? That's a nice amount of damage.

Doesn’t look that bad to be a total.

Glad no one was hurt. I’ve hit a deer and it’s no fun.

Imo less than 50% chance of a total loss.

Both headlights ~1600 each=3.2k
bumper 1k
hood 1k
rad support, radiator ~1k
fender ~750 or so? Could need both based on the misalignment of the right side fender with the A pillar

Judging from only the pic and not looking up any parts prices looks like ABOUT 7 grand in damage. Depending on mileage, car's probably worth over 10k so it's unlikely to be totaled. This is also assuming your insurance is paying for Genuine BMW. Aftermarket parts could be half as much.

This is quite obviously the real deal but unless specifically asked by your insurer, I don't recommend volunteering to them the fact that you were in the process of trying to sell the car.

I don't think it's totalled, even the airag didn't go off. Most of it seems just bodywork to me.

Did the Active Guard try to stop the vehicle, or was it too late I suppose?

I'd be surprised if it were totaled, especially if the airbags didn't go off.

The impact was high enough that I doubt you damaged frame or suspension. I think "not totaled"

Depends on the details of your insurance policy.

Is there an agreed insured value for the car, or is the insurance coverage for the market value? Does the policy give you choice of repairer and require the use of new, OEM parts?

Insurance companies make their decision based on the estimated cost of repair, which must be less than the insurance value of the car (agreed, or market), and the salvage value of the wreck.

You know the insured value from your policy; it's not hard to get a ball park for the salvage value, so you just need to work with the insurance company assessor on the repair cost estimate by underscoring where/who you want to do the repair, and that the repair must use new OEM parts. It's these last two — that you have choice of repairer and the new OEM part requirement — that push up repair costs significantly and likely push them to writing it off and paying you out.

Don’t think it will totaled. I just had some similar impact to the lower bumper which barely avoided the frames, nds up around $8k and I even fight for replacing with new Orem parts.

Since it is a relatively new car, and given the damage, I doubt they would consider it totaled. But only a professional can make that call. I've seen older cars with less damage considered totaled.

I'm not surprised, my x2 was in a front end collision and the hood wasn't damaged and the front fascia didn't even look bad. The damage was almost 7k. All the radiators, the crash bar, the sensors, the lights etc...lots of expense in there.
