low speed [walking pace] diff whine
Whine in 1st/2nd and reverse at <10mph - noticed it on a number of used M2's I drove before I bought mine - is it a trait of the active M diff or a known issue ?
If the latter what's the fix ?

Think there was a thread on this already. If I remember correctly the two solutions provided were:
i) get a louder exhaust or ii) turn up your stereo. I went with option i) I got an MPE with a Fabspeed Sportcat...thinking the only whining I'll be hearing will be coming from my neighbors. |

I'm hearing a very low volume pulsing whistle at low speeds. Is this the same noise as what you guys are hearing? It doesn't sound like straight-cut gears do, and the frequency of the pulsing increases the faster you go. It's completely gone at about 20 mph and if you accelerate even moderately quickly you'd never notice it.
I have about 30 miles on the car right now so I guess I can see whether it disappears before I have to take the car back for its break-in service. |

Hi guys,
New // M owner and some issues with a noise on my 2016 M2. Only 36 000 kms and can’t stop to think about this famous whining noise at low speed under 10 mph. (Or when i stop the car at a stop for example) I’ve read some post on F80 m3 and f87, where we understand its normal. (Because of the //M diff) Others guys say that Come from the DCT . For information, My rear diff is a new one and assembled in my bmw garage. I had the noise with the old diff and now with thé new one. Have you some informations or it’s really normal ??? I’ m little bit lost and stressed. Thanks and Bonne journée 🇫🇷 |

The 2016 diff has a known issue with some cars causing a more serious "soda can crushing" noise. That doesn't appear to be what you have.
All M2's have some level of diff noise, it is just a normal part of operation. I have it too, I just got a louder exhaust and now I almost never notice it. |
