Do you plan to keep your M2C for a long time or change it?

Hi All!

This might be bit of a silly thread but have recently been thinking more about the future of my M2C since I am creeping up to 2 years with it next month.

It's currently on a 4 year finance with an optional final payment so since I'm half way through I've started thinking do I keep or replace it? Been racking my brain to think what would be a suitable replacement and I couldn't find anything, I was hoping the new M4 would be a good successor but since its launch I'm going to give it a hard pass.

Now I've got my eye on a 992 CS, but financially far from it, so now I'm leaning towards keeping the M2C and paying off the optional final payment when the time comes. In an ideal world I'd want both the M2C & 992 CS

Just wanted to hear everyones thoughts on their M2C future! If you don't plan to keep it, what would you replace it with?

For now, I’m keeping it. There is nothing sub $90k right now that interests me. Plus I have a manual, which in itself makes it feel like a classic.

It's weird but there aren't many within this price region that interests me either!

Manual here as well!

I'll keep it. I like owning cars a long time, you get to build a relationship with it.

I had bought the car with a plan to keep it for a long time and make it part of my long term collection. Maybe I’ll end up being wrong but I bought the car with the idea that it will be one of the last smaller, tossable, manual, rear wheel drive BMWs. Want to have it in my garage next to a Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3 one day 😉

I tend to keep my cars for a long time (E39 M5 now at 16 years and Z4 M coupe at 11 years). This M2C will be no exception, especially as there is nothing else in the BMW line-up that I am interested in.

I have every intention of keeping the car for a very long time.

I don't think any other car has appealed to me this much over the last decade.

I don't know. I'm coming up on 15k miles and I'm deep in a two-year itch phase. When I hit two years of ownership with my last two BMW's, I was sure I wanted to move on. When I'm driving this car during the summer, or just staring at it from most angles, I'm entirely happy with it. But. After a good spirited drive, I consistently have moments of "I should have gotten a manual". The DCT is brilliant but 7 and a half years past my last manual car, with so few manuals still available, the draw is strong. Very strong.

I've put a lot of money into this car (exhaust, the PPF cost, actual payments on the car, a few stereo bits purchased, and the fact that I have three sets of wheels for it) so it's difficult to think about letting it go. And I am absolutely in love with this car's chassis and fun/speed balance. I have near-zero desire for anything faster since I can barely ever use the full power of this car, so that's not an issue.

If I could do an even trade with a manual version, I'd probably do it. As it is, despite the horror show front end, I'm probably going to look at the new M3. One last manual, but with the modern features that wouldn't be there if I bought something manual and used.

Or not. I've gotten annoyed that I didn't get a manual before with this car and I've gotten over it before. I can't discount the possibility that 5 years from now I'll still own this car.

Agreed. I can't imagine trading my M2C in favor of any of the newer BMWs.

I have continually traded in BMWs around every two years like a couple posts above, but I am planning on keeping my M2C for quite a while.

This is a 10-year car for me. I’ll probably even spring in a few years for the prepaid warranty and service work through 7 years.

I will keep this car a long time. There is so much good about this car. Great size, power, handling, curb appeal, for just an amazing price. For me, the next car would have to be P car, but now the M2 is making me wonder if a $40-50k premium is going to give me the equivalent benefit. If not, why would I even buy a P car? Not for a long time has a car appealed to me so much. I truly look forward to getting in my car every time, I make excuses to go places, covid lockdown couldn't keep me from driving it daily, I take the longer curvy back road everywhere. I simply love the character/personality of this little beast.
In a few years though, she may need to move out of the garage, so I will have to build her another one (there's my excuse). She wont stand outside

PS. Like the manual M2 owners, I am also keeping this a while because of the DCT (which I think is excellent) and the fact that its going away too.

Probably at least 3 yrs lol.
Fun on the street, and even more fun during DE’s.
Proper brakes, light steering, and a real e-brake. One of the last true analog ///M cars. Can’t get my arms around the G80, that big mama. Looks are “subjective”, but those VW rear calipers are the reason why I unloaded my f90’s; well that and the lack of 3 pedals

Anyone can do 150mph in a straight line.

Right thats what i have argued several times with my learned friends in this forum that the manual is fantastic in this car

I'm at the 17k mark and in the itch phase haha. My car is bone stock, don't even have CF parts on it (the horror). Luckily, I've got the manual, but there are times I wish I got the automatic because I do a lot of in town driving, then I find those country roads and glad I got the MT.

Oh btw there will be no manual M3/M4 coming to the UK....

M2C is the first M car I fell in love with (that I could afford ha ha) since I first saw the E46 M3 concept car in that amazing Chrome Shadow paint job back around 1999 or so.

Like others, I want to have a fun MT car before the whole world goes automatic or electric.

Kind of depends on what happens with the G87 but as of now i plan on keeping the M2C for many years.

Wife talked me into selling the 1m after three years and 42k mi of ownership. I've regretted it every day since then.

I did this one right with every m performance option under the sun and full PPF so it should still be an awesome machine 5 and even 10 years down the road. I plan to keep it a long time.

My M3 suffered the same fate and I have felt exactly the same. The sight of it driving off with the new owner is forever burned into my memory

That woman is now my ex and thankfully am married to a much more understanding partner
