Sweet, I have done 3 of these M Track day events.

Maybe when the new M3 comes out I will do it again. Its really no longer a bargain at $495 for half day when I paid $250 last 3 times I did it.

Advanced M school is $4995. You get a discount on that for attending so if you were planning on doing that it can be worth it. I signed up for the Advanced M school at this event last year, attended that last February and had a blast.
This year they say you get your own vehicle instead of sharing with other attendees and as such I'm hoping for more track time.
They also used to give a $1000 discount off a new vehicle and I'm hoping that is still in effect.

Having been missing out on travels this year (including having European Delivery of my M2 cancelled) I'm ok with spending the cost of the full day.
I'm going to do the Autocross in NJ the day before so making a trip out of it.

So do I use it to break in the M2 or take the i8 on a road trip.

Having your own vehicle instead of sharing due to COVID might make this worth it. In past years it was an absolute steal at $250 but they raised it to $500 and not so much.

Was the half day worth it for the people who have done it in the past?

I had a blast at the half day event. I just looked and there are only a few half day spots still open, full days are filled up.

Unfortunately not, especially at the $495 as the actual seat time is not great. There is also such a mix of people with varying skill levels that you often end up only driving as fast as the slowest driver. I found the more focused events with similar skill levels to be much more fun and learned more.

If you want to beat on one of their M cars I think $500 is a fair price.

If you want more seat time, then do a BMWCCA HPDE, or NASA, CHIN, or PCA, etc.

They are less expensive for 80-120 minutes of track time. $250-400 for the day.

Of course you would have to bring your own BMW :-)

Since my M2 had only 500 miles on it (900 now since driving to this) the price was worth it to beat up BMW's cars instead of mine.
The full day event seemed to have more experienced drivers. Many driving in this morning had M2's, M3's or M5's. Finding the correct pairing of experienced drivers helps too. Our group never felt slow at all.
