Definitely impressive, but I see the story here already going that people want 200 kg off. :P

Agreed.
It might be special, but it's about BMW Marketing 150 cars and making margins.
No real performance improvement - why would they call it a performance edition. Maybe the 20lbs less exhaust?

Too bad people bought it. It would have sent a msg back to BMW that it's not ok to tweak a car - add a plaque and add $10k.

"Only" 70kg ?

Shaving off 70kg of the 1495kg base M2 (which itself was already the result of some weight-reduction measures) = 1425kg (6MT) = an achievement = expect more lightweight materials and probably less creature comforts.

For the E46 M3 CSL BMW managed to shave off 110 kg (weight-reduction from 1495kg to 1385kg), but that was a more radical car and another era (2003). Safety regulations keep evolving.

The M4 CS will be out in appearance in a couple of weeks which would give a pretty good indication of how far weight savings would go with the M2 CS.

What weight savings would the following bring:

Carbon roof
Carbon bucket seats
Removal of rear seats
Removal of A/C
Manual transmission over DCT

And those things are all not going to happen... Not sure where they are getting that 70 kg from but let's wait and see.

Wheels, shocks, battery, manual trans, decklid, manual seats, exhaust, slightly less sound deadening material. I think that's about all we can hope for. Maybe CF driveshaft.

Anyone have specs on weight difference between n55 and S55.

What event was this and what else did you learn ??
70 Kg is quite significant if it is true especially considering that the S55 will probably add a little bit of weight over the N55. Couple that with a small spike in power and hopefully a better torque curve than on the M3/M4, it's starting to look pretty decent.

We were all really hoping for about a 91 Kg difference but 70 Kg is pretty close.

Maybe BMW implemented the innovative "Compressed Air Technology" in the M2 CS to shave off some weight ?

Expecting why? Where has a reliable source said they are investing in weight saving measures... let alone "serious weight saving efforts"?

S55 - heavier
Bigger brakes - heavier
More luxurious interior as some have on their wish list - heavier

If they do invest in serious weight savings (CF roof, hood, drive shaft, etc), look for the price to escalate north of US$85K.

It's not a CS"L"... maybe the blogger is confused.

Agreed. I'm hoping that the bigger brakes were just a test fit for the sizing of carbon ceramics. If it's getting ~400hp and is close to the same weight as the F80, why would it need monster brakes?

The Audi TT RS is priced at 65,875 for the US version. The M2 CS should be close to that if it matches it's performance.

I know they're different cars but there will be a lot of people cross shopping and really think BMW cannot go too much over the TT RS's price.

Edit: The TT RS weighs just 3175 lb for the US version.

Carbon brakes , hood and drive shaft? Can that be retro fitted to our M2s?

(Fun fact: retro fitted sounds strange to Norwegians. Means old-fashioned pussy)

Not sure if you were kidding with the first part. No, I was referring to what BMW would be able to do if they so desired, not what you can do aftermarket.
