The world is an imperfect place, the sooner we accept they the better off we will all be. There is no perfect car. I am saying that had I have a touch of OCD. I would never let that slight offset of the seat to override all of the positives of the car.

Does the driver's seat in a RHD car point to the right?

For that matter shouldn't the US P/S seat point to the right too?

If not is this whole thing really related to side impact survival?

Can someone who has a car check and see if there's room along the driver side door to square the seat up in front of the steering wheel? If there is it would only take a simple bracket to fix this.

I have a 1 month old M235i and when I first picked it up I noticed that the right side seat bolster was digging into my back more than the left. I am 6' and 200lbs and it is noticeable. It took me a week to adjust the seat settings to something that is acceptable. You do have to be conscious of how you sit or something just feels off, it is just uncomfortable. I thought that it was something to do with the leather breaking in but then I see the video.... This is one thing that I do not like about the 2 series and it is not OCD.

Personally, I highly doubt most will be bothered about the seating angle when they're too busy smiling their faces off from driving a truly special car.

Now, I know, there'll have to be that one guy who's thoughts are something like this: OMG! First no ///M mirrors and now the seat is crooked? That's it, I'm buying an STi!

Jk.

The new Sti was so miserable to stick I can't see that happening. I'd pay a shop to fix an M235 seat before I drove that STI.

I've never been in an STi that was miserable, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Have you tried a new one? The 16 I tried was really strange to shift. The RPM hung when you put in the clutch to upshift and it lurched really bad when you let it out. Maybe it was a WRX though. I drove a few that day and just recall the Subaru not shifting well at all.

Something not right here guys. Unless for some bizarre reason BMW changed the seat position to that of my 2015 M235i then i dont get it?

I've measured and stated before the seat is not crooked and pointing towards drivers side headlight. It is however offset by 1" to steering wheel centre.

I'm test driving the M2 this weekend so will have a close look.

Maybe the steering wheel is crooked? I felt that I'm sitting straight and pointing straight relative to the car and my right arm distance to wheel is shorter than my left arm. Do we know for sure the center stack is absolutely center aligned to the car? Or it's driver oriented design?

It's all relative. To get absolute angle, we'll need a bird's eye view and a transparent roof of the whole car.

It's my Z4M is the same way.

I've not been in a '16, yet at least, but I've never had a problem with the shifter. I think the biggest issue, lurching wise, has to do with the two piece d/s which sucks and my '07 suffers from that too.

I had a carbon fiber d/s, before bringing it back to stock, and noted that immediately - worst decision of my life to let go of my carbon d/s, makes driving in traffic annoying as heck.

I agree, but believe the side sill at the door entry should be fairly square. Based on this i measured the seat centre seam to the sill at seat front and back to be both 13 1/2" which makes it square. I took a photo of mine from back seat with headrest removed and mine does not look like any pics posted here.

I'd be surprised if the rack was not square. The bulkhead will be true i'm sure.

I looked very closely at a RHD M2 (in Australia) today and the seat was straight as an arrow.

Could it be a US safety thing? Is you seat offset towards the center of the car from the steering wheel. Like they moved it inboard a few cm.

That's reassuring, thanks. I sat in a UK car and didn't notice any crookedness. I thought perhaps it was me being unobservant. Here's hoping it only affects car where they drive on the 'wrong' side. It seems like a trivial thing but I guess it could get very annoying on a long journey and there really seems no need for it.
