Regarding refinement, I don't have any serious expectations from a '2 series'. I'll be surprised if it will even have a HUD or full leather. Expect a lot of plastic everywhere and will be lucky if they don't rattle.

At around this price point, I see the primary reason for going for an M2 is not refinement, nor comfort, nor practicality. It will be performance and fun in driving as a DD. I believe the corvette will be far better than the M2 in both those aspects. But let us see.
Perhaps. When I was referring to refinement I was talking about the interior and exterior, not necessarily the driving experience. I've test driven the corvette and it really feels like a super car. I do like it a lot.

The ride height (fender gap) for these mules seems to be lower than the M3/M4s. I wonder are they going to stay that way in a production car. I sure hope so.
Yea they do. I like the front gap way more than the M3/4 (stock for stock). This one just needs spacers just to push it out a little more. Hopefully it stays like this for production spec.

Will the M2 get the competition package type wheels at launch just like the 1M did? I really hope so!

I agree with your assessment. I have to say I've been looking at the C7 lately. It's a great looking car, proper 2 seater so there's less weight, and the big V8 should match the I6 Turbo torque feel easily. Plus, the noise is better.

On the other hand, you end up paying a bit more money but if I remain in Canada, it's a car that's unusable 5-6 months of the year unfortunately.

Having back seats is a must in a daily driver for anyone with kids. I have a car seat in the back of my 1M and it works great, in fact, it's easier to get her in than my wife's 5 series. I'm sure the back seat of the M2 will offer even more room than the 1.

My 3 1/5 year old 1M has no rattles, so there's that.

In fairness, the article doesn't claim that these were spyshots

But yeah, I'm sure there's a lot of winking and nudging going on between BMW and "spy" photographers for some of these constant updates. Ain't marketing grand?

Sure, I like the style 359 wheels, but why would they use previous generation wheels on a current generation car?!?!?!?

Sweet. 1'er back seats are great for kids. Adults, it is really a three seater unless the driver is really small.

Actually, the Corvettes drive train and chassis are more refined given that it's the premiere sports car for Chevy. The Vette is designed and built specifically to be a Corvette. The M2 is a 2 series with a modified N55 3.0 turbo along with using M developed suspension parts. I'm sure it'll be a very nice and fun to drive automobile, but it won't be at a Corvette's performance level.

The Corvette competes with Porsche's and other high end sports cars.
The M2 is not in that performance league.

The 2 series interior is far from refined. It's not much different than my 135i was, and even that one was kind boring.
But I got my 135i for the fun of driving not for the dash design.

I'd expect the M2s interior to be a little better. I wasn't referring about driving experience at all, but I didn't clarify that. If you look at the exterior of the corvette you'll notice inconsistent panel gaps and some pretty bad orange peel on some cars.

Will it get M wing mirrors??

If it had a carbon roof and the new M seat offered in the F80/82, then I might be pushed over the line.

Would be nice, but doesn't fit the 1M recipe to keep the cost down. If it's going to have the M3/4 suspension, it's going to have one of the M3/4 wheels.

I definitely want the M3/4 seats included in the 2. Carbon fiber would be nice but I am adamant about the seats. They are awesome in the M3/4 and a great combo of function and comfort.

I don't know about that. The c7 I sat in was shockingly impressive, particularly considering how crap the c6 interior was in 2011. I'd say that they were on par, if not the vette slightly ahead. And I'm not sure that blue stitching and some as of yet unconfirmed alcantara or CF trim will be enough to really elevate the m2 interior that much.
