Dinan Stage 1 or Dinan Sport Tune

Hey guys!

Interested in getting a little more power out of my 16 M2. I had read somewhere that the N55 is almost already pushing its max with stock internals in the M2. Does anyone have personal experience with the Dinan Sport Tune or Dinan Stage 1?

Is the HP & torque gain worth the price tag on Dinan S1? Or can I get similar gains with Dinan Sport?

Thanks in advance!

I have the Dinan Stage 1 and really like it - there's *Zero* question it makes a difference - not butt dyno - the car definitely pulls harder.

Boosts the HP to 383 and torque like 411 iirc.

And after more than 40K miles, no CEL - pricey but in worth it and I'd definitely do it again.

Thanks for the insights! Did you feel a decrease in turbo lag as well?

Dinan Sport Tuner is a best bang for your buck Solution. Not only easy installation but also comes with Bluetooth to adjust the modes. Look the previous threads to discuss about the performance difference, they're almost same but you have to spend over 1K USD vs. 249USD? I used to run Sport Tuner over 2 years and was so happy the result, then I'm running the BM3 tune for the stage 2 now.

I had the car for such a short time before installing the Stage 1 that I don't really remember.

I don't seem to feel much if any turbo lag.
I came from a Subaru WRX - now *that's* a turbo lagging car - wow.

Had sport tuner for a year, and it started making the car stutter at light load. I pulled it off and issue stopped immediately. catted DP, IC and CP also on car.

Sport tuner will not hold up on track. Need Stage 1 for that.

Also, I don’t think the gains are very much on CA 91 octane.

If this is about retaining a warranty then Dinan or Carbahn. Carbahn appears to have an interesting price strategy. Tuner ($250), no tuner (send in ECU - $0), warranty ($500) or no warranty which keeps the price point low(er). The tune is $500 regardless. The upside here is it's just a tune, you never have to open the hood to install harnesses. The tuner will allow you to flash back and forth from OEM to Carbahn tune.

At the end of the day, you'll have a warranty. Albeit, not a BMW warranty if they discover the issue was caused by the tune. When this happens you file a warranty claim with Carbahn (Similar to Dinan). It's anyone's guess what BMW does at this point moving forward with future warranty claims.

Lastly, gains are minimal but measurable.

Just FYI.

Carbahn is owned by Steve Dinan.

I believe he has sold Dinan and the new owner still uses his name.
