If you use the M235i temperature hack, it's interesting that the water temperature tracks the oil temperature to within about 10 Celsius. For example, when the oil temperature is at 60C/140F the water temperature is at 70C/158F (oil temperature always lags water temperature).

The water temperature stabilises around 115C/240F and the oil around 105C/220F (depending on ambient temperature). In other words, when the water gauge says it's up to temperature, the oil is too.

Until the M135i/M235i I've never owned a car with both a water temperature and oil temperature gauge and had been taught to wait a good 5-10 minutes after the water is up to temperature before the oil is too. It seems that in the M135i/M235i that rule of thumb is not true and a water temperature gauge is just fine.

If there's some measurement weirdness going on it would be great to hear what it is!

I'd to get some updates on your car, living vicariously through your experience with your new toy!

I second that.
Hopefully UAE247 has been too busy enjoying his car and will report back soon.

More likely the wider use of oil/water intercoolers over the last few years.

MY 2006 E60 was the first. oil/water cooler as part of the oil filter housing. Oil temp up quicker, but another couple of BMW gaskets to ultimately replace as well.

Ups and downs,
Rob
