I don't think so - maybe when it's preinstalled. But for the Connected Drive apps, including the store where you purchase the CarPlay upgrade, I think you need the SIM-card installed which is standard over here.

And the new Navigation is needed (option 609).

The qty is no different than with a cable, the streaming to the screen is through the cars WiFi indeed, but I guess the audio will go through bluetooth. Both are connected when CarPlay is in use.

Was able to play with one in a 6er and the graphics and animations alone make it that much better. The tiled home screen should be a much welcomed improvement, I know a lot of people didn't like the menu-based UI.

I never had a problem with any version of iDrive so iDrive 5.0 just improves what is arguably the best infotainment system, and remains ahead of MMI and COMAND in my opinion.

Used briefly on the loaner I had few weeks ago and I liked the interface of the old one better. Main option screen was rather hard to read for me.

can you show Spotify or Pandora apps being streamed via WiFi/bluetooth? not audio, the app itself.

you used to have to plug the usb cable in but apparently it works over bluetooth or WiFi.

No it doesnt, carplay is pretty much garbage at the moment on all platforms. It has the potential to be good though. Worth specing the option. I think at some point apple will realize they need to approve carplay apps or someone will just leak a developer key or method for sideloading carplay apps.

Do you still have to roll and bump that damn wheel to play a song- really there are just too many steps to get to Music- Maybe Apple Car play takes care of that.
And can you upgrade to the current version (V.4?)
