Cool BMW M2 (F87) Gets More Advanced Body + New Video + Nurburgring Sighting

BMW M2 (F87) Gets More Advanced Body + New Video

Update September 3:

We have added photos of the advanced prototype spotted testing on the Nurburgring.

F87 M2 prototypes have now been spotted with more advanced bodies. Gone is the M235i front fascia from the previous spotted prototypes. The front bumper is now fully camouflaged, indicating that what lies underneath is the production-intent bumper styling.

The previously boxy flared front fenders have been ditched in favor of traditional flared and molded fenders as we no longer see a large body gap from the earlier prototypes. As the fenders have been so widened compared to the standard 2 Series, the sideskirts do not yet fit properly.

There is no sign yet of a potential hood bulge (that's a M235i hood), carbon fiber roof, special trunk/spoiler, nor mirrors, but those may come yet.

As before, we also see the quad exhaust tips, M brakes (which will be painted blue on the production M2), drilled rotors and M limited slip differential.

The M2 will begin production in late Fall 2015, for deliveries in late 2015 - early 2016. It will feature the N55 turbo inline 6 engine (N55B30T0), producing around 370-380 PS (365-375 HP).

I would like to see CF option on the M2.

And please make it at least 200 lbs lighter than the 1M, not like the porky M235i.

i think the m2 will actually be reasonably light without a CF roof.

US curb weight for a m235i 6MT is 3505. the US curb weight for the 1m which only came in manual is 3362.

one thing the m235i has against it is it has a standard sunroof. thus the most common config has a sunroof. if you delete the sunroof (technically its a delete option) it'd probably take the m235i down about 50 lbs. so at that point an m235i weighs under 100lbs more.

the m235i has standard power seats. the 1m had manual ones etc. (on an m3 this is about a 10 lb difference per seat...). a couple more things trimmed down, and the m2 could easily be under 3400lbs with no CF parts.

If the reports of the motor staying pretty much the same as the current M235i, then why I'm I seeing a power bulge in the hood? Is there actually going to be a S55 derived motor afterall?

Seems like the MR M2 proto has 'final' front and rear bumpers? It seems to have a different embossing than the regular M235i? Hard to tell, could be wrong

IIRC the power dome on the M3/M4 is purely aesthetically. There was no need for a power dome.

The original hood from the M235i give me the feel i drive a very big car. I don t have that with the 1M. Maybe a power dome can change that.

Throttle response from m235i engine is better than the 1M coupe. Sound from M235i engine is also nicer then the 1M coupe.

But the suspension and stabi s are to soft on the M235i. You can also feel that the M235i doesn t have wider wheel base. It makes the car more stable.

I hope the M2 will get a Carbon roof. Lightweight hood and rear boot. Weight and longer wheel base makes are car more dull. So they need to concentrate on that.

the 1M has electric seats. I've never seen one with manual seats...at least in the US market.

The front fender seems formed, and flared.
What do you guys think? Flared or not?

Doesn't have that m235i racing fender on that red car

It's hard to tell, the best angle to see if it's still a racing fender is the last picture, and the watermark obscures it.

I have not driven a M235i, but I thought the 1M, at least with the ER CP and Tial Q, the throttle response is very quick that I find myself not hitting the M button most of the time.

The upgrade of ER CP, in my opinion, improved the throttle response about 50%.

I'm so excited for this car regardless of carbon roof, which would be nice and also purposeful. But in this car I'm looking for a step up from my M135i and I find the M235i a bit plain looking as well as being the same car but in coupe form.

My deposit has been down for a month now and I'm first in line at my dealers

i'm very curious at where the ///M2's final weight will land. I'm guessing that it will be 3300-3400Lbs.

Does anyone have any info on the final styling? Are they going to blend the rocker panels better than they do on the M235i Racing?
