You mention power and styling, what about chassis? I recently drove a 2008 M3 back to back with my 335i. The engine is not what won my heart, it was the chassis, handling, feeling. IMO the regular 335i engine inside any M chassis is a golden ticket. The warrantied power boost is icing.
Good point, I understand. I also too drove the e92 M extensively before I picked up my e92 Lci msport (based solely on the deal I got) what year was your 335 and how was it equipped? I definitely noticed the difference, but not really as significant as I would have thought. I'm sold on the e92 M looks and powertrain mainly. Having previously owned an e46 M and and e36 M, I actually was quite surprised with the two 335s I owned already.

Hopefully the m2 gets the full M suspension tinkering. I'm thinking it won't purely due to price point but who knows. Guess we wait.

Just my opinion, but the interior styling alone would be enough for me to get out of an e9x and into an f22 or f30. It's just so much improved.

I'd like square, but not crazy expensive 19", and ideally 8" width for better after market options that match OEM (as you must for some kinds of competition). 18 x 8 all around would suit me just fine.
Think of the last BMW (particularly M car) that did NOT have staggered tires... Last I can think of is the E36 M3 in 1995. the 96+ came with staggered wheels... Like nearly all BMWs back to the E30 M3... A square setup is the way to go in my opinion... but I can guarantee you will have to that yourself. Luckily.. there almost always seems to be room to put the rear OEM wheel on the front...

High standards from a person with a Toyota.

Guess you must have had your nose in the air and missed out on the 1M, so then you went and bought the " next best thing". At least you contradicted yourself by the end of your paragraph and decided to wait for comparos..

Hey genius, I've owned other cars. The GT-86 is just one more in a long line of 24 years worth. A damn good one too. If you'd even bother to read my signature or go into my garage on this forum you'd see I've owned 2 BMW's and the most recent was a 2011 M3 I owned for 3 years and ordered new. Try going in my garage next time before attempting to disparage LMAO. The only contradiction here is you because if you knew anything about cars you'd truly know I currently own the most critically acclaimed car in recent years. Yes, indeed it's a "Toyota", now whose nose is in the air...
I see you missed my earlier post stating that an M2 with a reworked N54 would be doable. I'm surprised a 1M owner like yourself would have missed that. Oh well, at least one of us does proper research.
In summary I didn't need a 1M when I HAD an M3...you may remove your foot from mouth.

The only reason it wouldn't would be because of the extra cooling required for the S55. Otherwise, just by a new engine or get one from a wrecked M3/M4.

S55 is basically an upgraded N55, it will fit fine.

Haven't seen any interior pics but IMO it seems it will be mass produced with idrive, DCT/6mt and power everything....if ya look close you can see the idrive screen on dash....

Anyone want to see an m4/ductail trunk lid? I think that'd look amazing on the M2. If you compare the 1M and the M2/2M trunks in the last picture, the M2 just looks a bit too flat

The 1M is Scarlet Johansen, M2 is Gwyneth Paltrow. Two different tastes but both nice. Wish I was Iron Man! : )

Yup. I was thinking the same thing. I'd love a photochop to see. I also prefer the rear flaring of the 1M too... but it's early days still.

I have really high hopes for the M2. Sure hope it comes with a carbon roof though......

I know a few folks to run their N55s at many many track days with absolutely no issues. I think there is some internet paranoia surrounding the N55 on track....

ps. I hope the Toyota FT1 gets the S55 ;-)

Mike, my understanding is it wont be a twin turbo, its only a twin scroll, which is no where near the same.

However, I may have missed some latest tech update, apologies if so.

Still going to be awesome though!

I don't understand this fetish with carbon fiber driveshafts. You guys do understand that regardless of the weight benefits they are absolutely ridiculously expensive to replace, right? If they are ever nicked during maintenance they will fracture at some point down the road. Good luck getting BMW or your indy shop to pay for that.

Just give me a standard steel or aluminum driveshaft and keep the exotic materials.
