The new M3/M4 use the S55 (which is derived from the N55 but sufficiently changed to warrant its own designation) whereas the M2 uses the N55. The M2's N55 seems to be an enhanced version of the N55 engine used in the 135i, 335i etc.

Hm, a little later than I expected, but still great new nonetheless. But thinking about how they rolled out the 1 then the 1M, it makes sense.

Dang I'm more excited about this than the M4. I've been looking to purchase a 1M but with the ridiculous pricing I'll just hold off and pick up one of these bad boys.

The M235i was just a stop gap measure, really. If it was me, I'd change the order from an M235i to an M2.

Test drove the M4 today...its a very nice car, lots of tech and the HUD is pretty nice, shows the gear and tach. More importantly, i put down a deposit today for the M2....first in line at my dealership.

So looks like deliveries will be mid 2016....damn, 2 more years in my Mini.

Says right there in the article and video that it will have quad exhaust. Not to mention the white M2 mule that already shows it.

Would hoping for a carbon fibre roof like the M3/4 be asking too much on this car? ...think the M235i is already adequate competition to the x45 AMG's and Golf R/S3's surely the M2 could be considered as a viable alternative to the upcoming Cayman GTS ,really excited about this car looks very promising!

BMW can produce all the FWD cars they want as long as they continue building cars like these!

So just as a reminder what was in the M1?

The front of this car and how the fenders flare outwards more make it look more aggressive than the new M3/4

S55 in the M2 would be ideal. but guess that would push the M3/4 out of sales lol.

CF roof? That would be awesome.

Just picked up an 09 E90 M3. Might have to grab one of these in two years!

based on forum wide feedback from 135 owners who migrated into 1Ms, anticipated step changes from 235 to M2 should be significant enough to justify a 235 now and M2 a couple years later. I too have a 235 arriving shortly and am looking forward to the M2 if the weight and value are both good.
