Based solely on merits, the M2c is the clear choice here imo. The line about it being a combo of the RS3 and Camaro seems pretty accurate. Can't beat the camaro in terms of price for performance though. Tragedy there's no manual or hatch for the RS3, otherwise I would totally own one because that 5 cyl is glorious. Wish they threw that engine in the cayman rather than the 4 pot.

RS3: daily with some fun.
M2C: mix of daily and occasional track/canyon drives.
Camaro: track.

Reviews that are just subjective opinion really don't do much for me. No real measured conclusion just an opinion. I like real instrumented road tests with measured results. carl

Good review. Made me want to get a Camaro to tool around in on the weekends.

Road & Track November 2018 issue is what you want. Camaro SS 1LE versus BMW M2C, on a race track.

Pretty much sums up how I feel. I looked at both the SS (and ZL1) and the RS3. I voted with my wallet on this one and picked the M2C.

I'm not going to say the Camaro has great visibility - it doesn't - but to be honest, the lack of visibility is the LAST thing on your mind when you're driving it. The visibility rears its ugly head in parking lots navigating around curbs and the like, and while backing up (you rely on the rear camera and the auto-tilting passenger side mirror). When looking out the windshield in normal driving, however, there is absolutely NO problem with the visibility.

visibility is key on track when you have a 458 challenge dive in on you to your right with an atom taking an outside line around your left. The camero freaked me out with its lack of visibility, situational awareness is almost non existent. I wouldn't want to have a faster car take a corner while in one..
Shrink it, refine it, add visibility and its on the radar. Got to get gov. out of building cars first though.

Okay, fair enough - if I was racing then the scenario you describe would be an issue. But, I am not racing it. I have taken the 1LE to Lime Rock (18-Sep-2018 with SCDA) in a normal HPDE session with the Intermediate run group (passing only with point-byes), and I'll say it again, visibility was not an issue at all. The car is the bomb on a track.

I think Camarero thing is horrible. But I'd still have one over the Audi.

Luckily I don't have to make such decisions.

I really wanted to buy the Audi. I need 4 doors, as a coupe is going to be a pain to deal with at times. I only had a 15 minute test drive in one, but it felt all wrong to me. I'm sure I would love one, but the initially impression wasn't positive. I kept thinking "this can't actually be $65,000".

I do track days with some friends that have ZL1 and they are really fast on the track.

For sure, I'm not knocking the car it's fantastic and a dream car compared to the last few decades for GM. I drove one on the street for a few days and still had issues but it's totally subjective. I'm also 6'5" so I sit pretty high up.
My opinion doesn't really matter as you point out you didn't have the issue.
I just thought I would lay out what I personally would like to see before jumping in one (doesn't mean it's not good enough as is for most).
I do wish they would get rid of the 3 beep locking sound ha hear it all over the paddock.

Would be very interested to know, what felt wrong about it? I've never driven an RS3. In concept, I really like the idea of 4wd - better grip, better launch, etc. But, from everything I've read, it kills the fun.

I still remember Davil's comment that driving an Audi was like going to a luxurious 3-star Michelin rated restaurant, and being served white bread all dinner long.

Hell, you've inspired me to go to Audi dealership today and test drive an RS3 just to see what it's like!

Tell us how you're received by the salesperson when asking for a test drive in an uber-exclusive/holier-than-thou RS model

Just drive in with your M2C, they'll let you drive an RS3....while they are checking out your car
