I'm with all the others that say this looks more like an M2cs and not an all out CSL.

I know with Porsche for the GT division cars you have to be on a special list years before the car is even announced and even then only VIPs stand a chance......
It's not easy! Especially with limited production cars from BMW.

You really need to have a relationship or already be a VIP at a dealership.

When I walked in to get 1M back in the day.....they pretty much laughed at me. Asked how many cars I've purchased from them in the past 10 years.....it was none...lol. They then said their 3 allocations were already spoken for by there "VIP" clients......

So, I guess it would also depend on how limited the run is???? 1M was super tight!

Agreed. The rumored M2 car from like 5 years ago was my dream car, and when I found out it wouldn't have a CF roof, among other things, I lost a bit of interest. The M2C brought my interest back, and I have recently put in an order. The idea of an M2 CS piques my interest, but I'm assuming it will be $10-20K more than the M2C, and it's just not worth it to wait and pay that price premium for me. I won't notice the CF roof that much.

lol, brilliant. At some point I think each individual needs to prioritize and then figure out what they can be content with. I'm certainly glad to find out now that a CS version may be coming out, so that I can be content with my decision to not wait for it now.

I don't care how it sounds but I sincerely hope they get rid of the eyesore they call the rear exhaust barrel in the M2 CS..

I have no idea how the M2C exhaust got pass visual approval in the developmental process; it subjectively ruin the entire backend of an otherwise handsome vehicle..

Here's to hoping..

I did and I couldn't be happier

I would say at least 70% would end up purchasing a pre-owned 1M over an M2 if they could just drive them back to back.

I understand tho that some want a new car with a warranty ect ect......but, they are missing out in my opinion!
If I was to get an out of warranty BMW. 1M would be down the list.

Agree 100%, definitely a CS. CSL is going to replace the GTS badge on the upcoming G8x models.

I never understood these kind of "weight saving" things in cars like the CS. If you're going all the way with it, then cool. It just doesn't make sense to reduce comfort and practicality to save like 10 pounds in a car like that. A thinner armrest without a cubby and door handle loops don't even make the car feel more "special" IMO.

The E46 CSL didn't have anything like that, so no reason to believe we would expect to see a huge eyesore on this car, be it a CS or CSL.
In Paul's defense, while the E46 CSL didn't have an outlandish wing, the original E9 CSL was known as the "Batmobile" for no reason other than its radical aerodynamic wings, quite the opposite of what we would call humble.

That being said, I agree that the M2 in its current form would not look pretty or aggressive with a wing of that stature.
But of course, if aerodynamics does necessitate a big wing, then so-be-it.

"Form follows function" are good words to live by when it comes to developing something as serious as a car bearing the coveted CSL moniker and I trust that BMW M (and M Design) have the ability to integrate it into a brilliant, aggressive design, provided they don't cut corners! (No excuses for a CSL)

So they can save close to 160lbs over M2C without even touching the interior. If they add manual AC, manual seats, lightweight door trim etc total weight savings can be near 200lbs.
Make it 6MT instead of M-DCT and approx. 25 kg is saved.

But I doubt that that's gonna happen, unfortunately (no 1M or Cayman GT4 'manual only' strategy). The 0-100 km/h and lap times fetishism. And as someone already pointed out, the test mule in this thread features paddles: omen.

Would be amazing if BMW brought this back. The E46 CSL is perfection.

This is just evolution.
Everything can be improved upon, up to you to weigh up the worth in those improvements.
It’s great that BMW are trying to perfect a product rather than just churning out a rebadged version and relying upon blind brand loyalty.

Here are my thoughts.
1. M2 has a very low price to add premium to. AT LEAST, please, BMW, add 50% with a CS and 100% premium with a CSL, over a M2C. These cars are NOT for everyone and are NOT expensive with said premium AT ALL.

2. CS and CSL are nowhere to cheap out.
CS should carry ALL the MP parts that's already announced and a 425hp tune, and the M4CS seat.
CSL, on top of CS, should have
Signature/Classic Elements:
1) Lip integrated front bumper
2) Wing/spoiler integrated trunk.
Plus M4GTS treatment
3) OLED rear light
4) Alcantara and stripped interior
5) S58, or at least water injected S55
6) Recaro sourced seat
7) Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft
8) CCB kit
9) Club Sport Coilover
10) Roll Cage

3. This little car could be special for these reasons:
a. Not likely there ever will be a lighter M in the future
b. The last DCT equipped M
c. If S58, then the best L6 turbocharged engine before hybrid takes it all over.

Look, another variant coming up

Quite like the rear boot spoiler, looks like the MP on M3/M4 or the RPK version.

The M2C can be converted into one of these (bar the CF roof ) fairly easily...the S55 is the milestone...CS or CSL is just another moniker

With an S58 would it negate the need for the huge muffler ?

Needs GTS seats and roll bar. If it's just the off the shelf m perf parts and ccb, that's not enough.

For one, no version of F8x will see a S58.

As far as the muffler goes for S58 powered models. Here is the G80 M3 testing.

Most of that is a pipe dream.

Reality will be, a CS badged M2. With Mperf carbon roof and hood, CS rear lip spoiler, tune, optional CCB. Looks like the same M2 Comp exhaust. Maybe some minor interior changes, CS seats at most.

M4 CS testing vs M2 CS testing...(not a CSL).

M2 just has blank white vinyl wrap covering parts, instead of the standard camo vinyl.

The CS spoiler is a dead giveaway.

How are you so sure on the S58 - seems to make sense since its already utilize on the M240i

Bummer on the huge muffler on the m3 tho BMW can at least redesign the rear end to make the muffler less obvious
