New RS3 or TT RS!

I'd consider a Cayman but in Australia it is much more expensive than an M2.

Nope. I just can't decide but I have a few deposits down to keep my options open. Pros and cons for so many! Unobtanium might eliminate a few. I have a few months to make a decision and I will definitely post when I do.

Edited to add: If I can't/don't get the M2 I won't be getting a BMW at all. I will be buying from another manufacturer.

But the M2 doesn't really have a true competitor from the traditional rivals - the CLA AMG and RS3 are hatches, not coupes and aren't RWD. That should be the area of focus for BMW - to distinguish the car and make it the most attractive entry point into M, AMG, or the Audi R cars.

The problem with Porsches is that everything is an ala-carte add on - there's not many packages where they give you a break on the overall cost associated with those choices. My 981CS started at 64, but ended up considerably higher than that. I think Porsche is one of the most profitable car manufacturers out there, and this has to be a big reason why. Makes it harder to penetrate that as a younger buyer, but they don't seem to care. Just part of the beast I guess.

That's true...but I couldn't think of anything else after my test drive...and have been in my 981 CS for almost a year.

Gotta have shit to make the daily grind worth it, yes?

Is it crazy to consider the TTS? I was hoping to wait for the ttrs but it's not even fully confirmed it'll come to the US and if it does, only next May. With my e92 lease ending in 2 months, I figure a TTS is a great car to fill the void since I didn't fall in love with the M2 and there's a huge wait time

The TTRS coupe is confirmed for the timeframe you referenced. That said having driven the TTS that's avail here and the RS3 w the 5 engine that's currently avail in EU, honest advice I think you'd be perfectly happy with the TTS and the $$$ you saved piled up in the trunk. If you were saying S3 vs RS3 if tell you to wait. I haven't driven an M2 yet but I'd squarely put the order as S3 distant third, M235 which I have now as #2 and TTS #1 in terms of driving enjoyment. I'd take an RS3 over the TTS for other reasons, but from a pure driving perspective the TTS would be my choice among those 4 options.

I think that this would be the case for a lot of folks interested in the M2 - if you can't get one from BMW, you are going to have to look elsewhere in order to find something in that niche.

Even though cars like the M2, TTRS, 981/718 aren't really competitors, but instead represent the dwindling option list for certain types of enthusiasts.

If you want to be under $60k, assuming we are talking new only, for a real drivers car the options are very limited these days indeed. M2, TTS, the C43 that's due in the fall are about all I can think of in a coupe. And I wouldn't necessarily call the Benz and "drivers car" think that's a bit of a stretch.

Gotta agree with this... if they continue to screw the pooch on this, you can't reward that kind of behavior.

Currently considering letting my dream of MT go and moving to the RS3 sedan coming to NA in 2017 (MY2018).

Hopefully it does not come to that. I can be patient and wait for my supposed November production date. But I will NOT accept a huge MY2017 price bump for the same car. I know most that are saying it will be a significant bump are those with firm MY2016 orders. But their wishful thinking may become reality.

If I was looking for another "driver centric" car, then I'd get a Focus RS. But, expect roughly the same waiting times for one of those as you would for an M2!

Alternatively, if I wanted to go fast in a bit of luxury, RS3 hands down.

C43 AMG is a lot better car than the CLA. New couple coming too.

I waited three months for a Corvette and then sold it eight months later, disappointed, Bought a WRX and had a blast at the track several times and have now sold it to wait for a M2...I'm told by my dealer the M2 will be built in June and delivered in July..If it goes sideways and there are delays.. I think I'll bag the wait and get an S3 Audi or a Macan....and give up on the M2..life is too short to and my delayed gratification is running low..

Was it a C7? If so, what disappointed you?

I'm debating C7 vs. M2 vs. 718 Cayman right now, and leaning toward the C7...
