How many threads like this? Tire question..

Simply put I need new tires for my 2020 M2C. Car came with Cup2's and they were great, swapped to PS4S and they are good. Better in the rain but vague in feel. Rears are toast so I need a new set of tires.

Here is the caveat:

My car is a lease (don't ask, business reasons and its a great lease) and I may not buy it out at the end of August. So is there a tire that exists that has excelent wet performance (live in Tampa Bay so we get wet a lot), great dry grip and feel?

If not what would be a good compromise? I can get PSS and 4s but maybe something less $$$? I would hate to turn the car in and leave all that tire equity on the table.

Any advice Gents?

The real equity loss would be to return it and not sell it back to a dealer. Saving a few hundred bucks on bad tires is pretty lame.

Oh that’s also on my mind since my buyout is decent. I just don’t know what the state of the used market will be in August. It was supposed to drop this month and it’s going up. Could be due to tax refunds are about to hit.

I’m not looking to save a few hundred per se. But now that you mention it that’s all it would really be and less driving joy…

I’ll probably hit the cords in about 1k so it’s time.

So if not 4S or PSS whats the recommendation?

The only tire better than the PS4S that you already have is a set of NEW PSS, and they aren't as good in the rain, but have better front end feel. The problem is that the PSS advantage only lasts for a short while, call it 5K miles.

Secondly, forget the money, you have to pay to play.

ecs 02 apparently they improved steering feel and are excellent in rain.

I had several ecs sets and were great in the summer and rainstorms. Also last a long time but you may not care and are cheaper than ps4s.

you can consider advan apex v601 also if returning car in Aug.

I went with the ECS 02. Spoke to Tire Rack and they are less than the 4S and he drove them at the BMW performance center and had nothiung but great things to say about them. So I took a flyer and ordered a set.

That's awesome!! I'm in the same boat as you and am thinking of getting these new ECS 02. How do you like them so far in comparison to the PS4S?

Getting them installed today. Won't really know how they are for a few hundred miles. I will report back for sure.

Am I too late?

Majority of my miles are spent on Continental DWS 06+

2nd wheel set with PSS for track days.

No regrets. The Continentals are great. I don't miss the PSS when I swap.

I'm sure you'll like the ECS as well.

First off, they do not have the same grip as the 4S. They are livelier and do have a more progressive break away characteristic. They feel like they have a stiffer sidewall as well. I have less than 1k on them but i do have enough miles that there should not be any mold release impacting the feel.

The 4S has more ultimate grip. At least that is what I am feeling at the moment.

They are sportier than the 4s. They also make a different noise when you approach their limits.Higher pitched so a little more warning. It feels as if they don't roll under the side wall as much too. Corniering traction and feedback is getting better with more miles. Still not sure if they have the same or less grip than the 4s. The problem for me is that the 4s, once gotten used to the sidewall softness, delivered gobs of grip. They just stuck . The ECS02 takes more time or more awareness to read the level of grip available. Still have not gotten them figured out as I don't drive them like the 4s, which I have years of time with on 2 different cars. I think the ECS02 is more of a value than the 4s just do to price. Waiting for a FL rain so I can see what wet traction is like. The 4s was a monster in the area as well.
