Many of the gas stations in California have the vapor-capturing rubber boot on gas pump so I have not run across this issue.

In Oregon we can't pump our own gas and all the attendants just slam it in there, and it actually rests on body most of the time.

Yep.. Really annoying. They freak out if you get near the pump here.

Never go ballz deep with the nozzle. Put in "just the tip" up to the first ring of the nozzle against the fuel filler neck so that the pump won't fall out. You don't need to hold the pump, it will not fall out. This has two benefits, 1) let's air escape so that the pump doesn't stop from back pressure 2) stays clear of your paint.

Been using this method for years with no problems.

I don't think the Tag method will work here in Cali. Wont even pump unless there's some kinda seal due to that vapor boot thingy.

Seriously? I was out that way last year and did this without issue. Works out here just fine.

Same thing here in New Jersey. Fine by me though, I like not having to get out of the car when it's cold or wet and enjoy not having my hands smell like fuel. Also have never had an attendant slam the gas pump into the fuel tank, they always seem pretty careful about it. My PPF also helps alleviate any worries.

This may work for some cars but I have never been able to get this method to work when filling up my motorcycle. I've had two bikes (Ducati and Kawasaki) and always had issues when the vapor-capturing rubber boot on gas pump was not available so I would always have to usually drive to gas station that had one. Possibly faulty pumps at certain gas stations and maybe user error on my part but some of my friends that ride motorcycles have similar issues filling up. Again much less of an issue in California then when I was living in NYC.

"This is probably one of the reasons why: "

That is too funny! I just hope that it wasn't her car.
