It isn't temporary. People have been satisfied with the fix for decades. Whole point of the thread is to allow people to enjoy their car more. And if it really just boils down to the power of placebo, then why ruin the fun? End of day, I genuinenly don't even care. I still think the reset is worth it, whomever may be reading, present or 5 years from now.

This specific post has been shared around thousands of times for the past 15 decades. Browse through the comments of said posts and you see that the majority of responses are positive. I've tried it myself, multiple times, was satisfied with the result, decided to share it to other owners that perhaps don't know about it. There's nothing to gain for me except the satisfaction of perhaps giving other forum members something free to try and perhaps even enjoy. Then comes unicorn riding brexiter with his overwhelming mechanical intelligence and asserts his dominance by spending his afternoon writing a plausibile theory, which don't get me wrong might even be correct, but without any official documentation to prove it, is a theory as good as mine, which isn't really mine, more like that of thousands of people.

Holy Batman! This thread is back! From what I recall reading this a year ago, it was a placebo affect? Has there been any updates? I have not tried this myself...yet

I only use grandpa (efficient)mode when I need to talk on the phone. Otherwise sport or sport plus with the windows down. I don't want the car second guessing my right foot.

We did this in the focus st and RS community as well. You could either unhook the battery for like 15min or like me you could reset it through the Cobb Accessport. I think it worked, haven't done it to the M2C yet tho.

I'll bite. The most this will do is affect throttle profile. It absolutely shouldn't be affecting boost availability or wastegate behaviour. ie you could just add more throttle with your foot for the same effect. Anywho. Nice little find nonetheless. It's news to me outside of ETS and I might just try it.

This could easily be tested by making a fixture or just sending the appropriate output voltage from the pedal position sensor, whatever type that is (hall effect, potentiometer, encoder, etc.) while sampling the tach data before and after a reset. Would have to be done with the engine warm and in identical conditions. My Mazda 3 throttle actually behaves differently until the engine is warm and cold start is over. Probably a waste of time, though. Even if it did this, why would people want to work so hard to defeat something that's just going to re-adapt to the same parameters on you? This is the same kind of myth that has persisted like the myth that junk like the Sprint Booster improves throttle response. Nothing you put in series with the pedal can help, it can only fake it with aggressive tip-in. Maybe in some cars the throttle is so terribly non-linear that you would prefer to change the curve, but that's not throttle response. |

I cant say for sure what it does specifically, but its definitely not placebo and it definitely does something
Granted its not a huge difference, it has been a noticeable change in every car Ive done it to Even on my F80 M3, recently did it because it felt sluggish, now is a lot more reactive At the end of the day it takes 30 seconds to do, if it works for you great, if it doesnt, nothing lost

Just had my car serviced at dealership and the advisor mentioned the adaptations were reset. Car definitely feels more responsive and pop and burbles are louder too. Auto rev matching on the 6MT seems crisper as well.
