Curious about this. Car is currently at the dealer and at least some updates are being done along with a replacement telecom module. SA says they are updating “the whole car” but Half the SA’s don’t know their ass from a whole in the ground and I assume it’s just flapping gums for the average concerned bmw driver.

I’ll check BM3 as soon as I get the car back next week

All differences are vs. my previous ISTEP version (NBT_EVO M) which was programmed in late 2017.

- Steering feel in comfort, sport, and sport+ is definitely lighter. The car darts faster now. In the previous NBT_EVO M version, comfort was light, but there was a noticeable heaviness to Sport/Sport +.
- Might be my imagination or placebo, but road feel has improved.
- Car will pull harder in Comfort - again, might be a placebo or due to the throttle adoption reset values.

Separate topic but by updating the ISTEP to Q, I was able to enable full-screen CarPlay which is a bonus. I believe versions N,O,P are also eligible for the hack - you need to use a USB or ESYS cable (depending on ISTEP version) and have someone code it for you. A fellow out of the UK helped do it and it was done and over with in about 5 minutes.
So my OG (pre LCI) M2 went in for warranty work (new clutch + DAB/FM problem) and I asked all the latest software updates on every area...which they did (they said). Honestly; steering feel in comfort vs sport feels the same in heaviness at first sight (side note; it was two week ago I drove my M2 and I got it back today). So this is a picture from my software version...does this mean I have the same ISTEP update as talked in this topic...and also how could I get the full Apple car play screen? Or are those both updates (better steering + full screen Carplay) maybe only for USA updates and not EU?

Thanks

Yes I think Q is latest and should have improved steering and ability to “hack” full screen CarPlay. I just had my 2017 updated last week and definitely notice an improvement in steering and throttle unless just placebo effect.

Ok...the full screen is a hack, I get it.

Yeah; I was considering it, but I am worried I will miss the split-screen view. I wish you could enable/disable full screen carplay within idrive settings.

I just requested mine to be updated yesterday. My SA is awesome. He and the tech scoured the update list and found nothing about steering. He agreed to push it anyway under my other iPhone reliability complaint. They agreed sometimes other updates are hidden.

No noticeable change, albeit a tad lighter and more direct, but also had alignment performed so my results are confounded.

Upgrade from NBT_EVO M to NBT_EVO Q done today on my late-2017 LCI. I confirm that the steering is strongly improved: it is lighter and more precise in Sport and Sport+, and less floating in Comfort. And the ASD seems to be turned off totally. Thank you, BMW!

Maybe it's an LCI thing or that I did not drive my M2 for two weeks when it was at my dealer for some work and software update. Like I said; I did not notice any big changes in steering feel....but maybe I did not notice it because two weeks passed by and talking about ASD...this is always full off on my car (with a ASD off cable).

So does your sofware version looks the same a mine?

Great that you have found the benefits.

The asd on mine came back over a few days. I have now coded it to the "UL" volume setting (power class) and it's absolutely fine at that low setting.

Will the update to the latest Q lock the possibility to use BM3 and similar?

That is easy to do yourself I you have payed for the option. They updated everything on my car because I have realy bad FM/DAB reception and the dealer said the only thing they can do is update everything. They can not change the headunit under warranty because the headunit does not give any fault codes. On the M2 there is no seperate FM/DAB antenna they say at the dealer? Result is still bad FM and DAB reception....

I told them that ridiculous. Won't budge though.
My 2003 Porsche Turbo gets its oil changed at the dealer in Idaho for about $280. It's a hugely bigger job with the Turbo because the oil needs to be drained from multiple ports (4, I think).

At full bore, my BMW dealer charges, I think, $130, however there is always a coupon for under $100.

Find another dealer or move!

UPDATE!

So…the first time I drove my pre LCI MY 17 M2 with sofware NBTevo_Q18491I was after I did not drive ithe car for two weeks. At the first sight I could not feel that much difference then 2 weeks before. Probably because there was a two weeks time frame between dropping the car and getting it back (in the meantime a drove a horrible X1).

So now I drove a (not updated) M2 LCI MY18 (20.000km) vs my (updated )pre LCI MY17 (60.000km) on the same day…back to back (both manual).

When driving with my own M2 straight after the M2 LCI I could notice the following things:

Gearbox: My gearbox is more notchy then the one of the LCI I drove. Has nothing to do with the update I know, maybe it's because of the lower mileage or the easier life that the LCI car had? I drive mine hard and also occasionally on track.
PDC: Reverse keeps beeping fixed and works like in every other car.
MDM: A little more slip.
Engine: A little less turbolag (feels like a little less aggressive power delivery).
Steering: I don’t think the steering is now absolute great, but it’s certaintly better. There’s is also more vibration felt from changes in road surfaces, but it still feels a little dead in the middle. I did not notice big differences in steering weight like before update.

After updating to NBTevo_Q18491I do other people feel the M2 power delivery is less aggressive? Or is it just in my head

Power delivery doesn't feel less aggressive to me...

Throttle response in comfort does seem more aggressive.

Hey guys.... in a few days I should be getting my 2018 LCI M2 and based on this thread I am trying to convince the dealer to install the latest sw update before I pick up the car

The sales rep seemed a bit confused about my request, thought i was talking about the GPS software

Hopefully I've clarified what I want in the last email, we'll see what happens

PS. glad to see a bunch of fellow Belgians here

Hello, Mainly referring to OG/LCI owners here:

I have seen this thread about the potentially better steering feel you get from the newest ISTEP (F-020-????) but what else is included for the og/lci m2?

If is also includes the improved differential and mdm mode that comes in the M2 competition, allowing more slippage and improved traction, then its a no brainer

Can anyone confirm ?

If one is to flash it through an AD, can I still Apply Bootmod3 parameters on top?
Cause I heard that some of the newer
ISTEP versions are restricting new third party parameters from being implemented.

Thanks mates

Your right, it wasn't great, just a little bit better. However, if you want a significant bump in steering feel, check out this thread re GTS coding:
