992 Turbo S is going to be around 3,700 pounds. This was reported in the articles from November 2019. About 100 pounds increase over the 991 Turbo S which was 3,600 pounds (3,600 + 100 = 3,700). M2 CS will be lighter than 3,700 pounds. Not by much but still lighter. We know it is smaller.

I know they are not competing cars. But they are cars that interest me, so that's my comparison. I have no interest in Mercedes C63, Audi TTRS, etc. The Cayman GT4 is manual only but is also underpowered to me.

Agreed! My 2019 M2C 6MT weighed 3563 lbs with full tank of gas. M2 CS 6MT should be 50+ lbs (or 100+ lbs w/ CCB) lighter.

F87 M2 instrument cluster evolution: check the rpm red zone + characters font type + ///M logo + "1/min x 1000" location.

Question: did the the May 2017 mystery picture show an early M2 CS instrument cluster, though with higher rpm zone (8K rpm) ?

May 2016: picture of a EURO-spec original M2 instrument cluster (my ex M2):

May 2017: mystery picture of a US-model M2 pre-production black panel instrument cluster (source: here (pictures) and here (brief video clip showing that it ain't a fake picture)):

May 2017: official picture of the EURO-spec M2 LCI black panel instrument cluster:

Plus Porsche Turbos are known to experience massive depreciation.

Somehow $83.6k for a M2 CS with minimal options (no CCBS) doesn't seem that bad. At least it is smaller, more nimble, and weighs less than the 911 Turbo. Depreciation won't be as bad either due to less supply of CS.
Looked at in that light yes indeed.

I've heard even later, perhaps US deliveries will be as late as January.

CS clearly stands for COTY Sport.

I have always understood CS as Club Sport.

The "C" in "CS" has been a source of "Confusion" over the past couple of years.

I will dedicate a comment looking for clues in the forthcoming days.

As BMW M marketing unequivocally pointed out yesterday that the "CS" model designation nowadays stands for "Competition Sport", then this choice is due to be respected.

However, quite peculiarly, "Competition Sport" is nowhere mentioned in F82 M4 CS, F80 M3 CS or F87 M2 CS / F87 M2 CS Racing official press materials. Instead occasionally some "Clubsport" / "club sport" name dropping (without stating that "CS" stands for "Clubsport" / "Club Sport" though). Seems to have worked because, judging by Google results, many car magazines assumed already back then that the "CS" model designation rebooted in 2017 with the F82 M4 CS, stands for "Clubsport" / "Club Sport".

You probably also know that the Volkswagen group already uses the "Clubsport" / "Club Sport" moniker since several years (2016 VW Golf GTI Clubsport, 2020 VW Golf GTI Clubsport, Porsche 981 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, Clubsport Package for Porsche cars, PCA Clubsport series). No idea whether that was of any influence at all, though.

The CS probably doesn’t stand for Clubsport because BMW used to have a regular 3 series model called Clubsport.
