MT for sure. It's epic that BMW is actually offering the MT is a CS variant. I guarantee you in 10 years, people will be fondly recalling the M2CS with the manual, not the DCT (as good as it is).

GL with your decision and congrats on the CS.

If you drive like a granny with the DCT every day because of traffic. How long does it take to re adapt if you don't reset manually? I'm convinced the transmission in my current car zf8 loses its pizzazz after a while. In moments that I want a little excitement the car can feel a bit bland.

I would expect this would be less of an issue with the 6MT? Is the adaption more to do with transmission tune, throttle response, both, only one?

I drive mine manually unless in a parking lot or bumper to bumper traffic. So it's not an issue. Plus you have 3 options for auto shift. 1 is very gentle and that's what you would use in heavy traffic.

Manual all day every day. Driving manual in stop and go in the M2 is easy since the clutch is pretty light. Not the best feeling clutch, but easy to work.

The big question for me is, do I get rid of my current M2C for the CS lol I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm usually all about swapping cars in a blink of an eye much to my wife's displeasure, though she's used to it by now. I must be getting old. Or lazy. Or cheap. Or dare I say it, 'financially responsible.' I much prefer my financially irresponsible car swapping former self.

Enjoy the CS!

I sold my OG M2 Perf Edition and wasn't sure I was doing the right thing. I'm old and still fiscally irresponsible.
The price on CS is way too high but I can't resist!

If you are going to keep the car I would say manual. In the future, the manuals will be worth more because fewer CS’s will be built with manuals and the manual transmission will be extinct. At least that’s my from the cuff opinion. I’m manual all the way.

Would a parts guru that reads this thread confirm that the M2C and CS use the same clutch slave cylinder?

I've convinced myself to do the E90 slave swap and auto solutions ssk at the time of delivery. I should have plenty of time to order the ssk before. Assuming I get an allocation by September.

Canadian buyer here, but here's my 2-cents worth.

I grew up driving MT on a '74 2002. My current M2C is DCT as were my previous 2 M2's. My new CS will also be DCT.

Like others have said, MT's no fun in city traffic. With DCT, you can have best of both worlds. Plus on the track, DCT's the way to go.

At the end, to each his/her own. Just enjoy your baby.

I must be a weirdo. I never minded manual transmission in traffic. Even bumper to bumper highway jam ups. Probably has a lot to do with how comfortable the clutch is too. I never delt with it when I had a 6 puck and HD pressure plate in the miata, which might have changed my narrative.

I'm with you on the city driving. We aren't talking about some crazy "hard", "stiff" clutch. Most BMWs are pretty forgiving, beside, I do very little "city" driving. Live in country and 20 mins to office with one traffic light.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'll be ordering a manual trans!

It never bothered me either, but all my clutches have been light (RX-7/MR-2/Starion/Miata/S2000/STi/Exige/M2).

I'm getting my M2CS in manual. I have an M4CS (which I'm keeping for ever) and that is DCT only. Love the DCT but want another type of driving experience with the M2CS.

By the way, my steering wheel will be leather... love the Alcantara but it's way too thick for one hand initial steering input while shifting at corner entry.

As many have said, its your choice, but if i had to do it again i think i'd get the DCT.

I think my decision to that also helps that i own a 2005 S2000 so when i want to drive a MT car, i get to drive a car that arguably has one of the best MT ever.
I can second this. The 6MT feels like a halfway measure towards automatic with rev matching.

If it's a weekender like mine, 6MT all the way but it gets boring to be honest. The gear ratios on my M2C feel really odd. I have accidentally sat at 4th gear at highway speeds without realizing it and after shifting to 6th it felt nearly the same.
If it's a daily, DCT all the way as the BMW manuals are not smooth.

The VW transmission intervenes a lot though. Not quite the same as the BMW where you are totally in control.

Overall though, go for what floats your boat. There's no wrong choice!

Manual for me. If I intended to track frequently, I'd consider DCT. For it's worth, I had PDK-S in my .1 GT3 and loved it, yet still missed the manual hence chose a 6 speed for my current car(s).

OP you said it yourself, "manuals are getting rare"...it's going to get rarer going forward

Check the resale value of Porsche 991.1 CS, 991.1 GTS, 991.2 GTS, GT3 in manual vs PDK. Also check out Ferrari's California, F430 in manual vs F1 and DCT gearbox in the used market

The point that DCT is faster on track is moot, how much faster? A pro driver in manual will be faster than anyone here in DCT. Fast because of the driver is great, slightly faster because of the gearbox is mahhhh.

I had leased a M4 with DCT and while it was super fast and super easy, I think I'm going with manual in CS.
No doubt the DCT can do things no human can do with a manual and do them much faster but I like the idea of having one of the last of a dying breed. Plus this car won't be a daily driver, and it won't be a track car. It will be a weekend driver for pure fun and pleasure.

I’m personally going with the manual as I want something with a little more driver involvement and looking to spec it with the lightest possible weight thus went with the CCB’s as well. In the end, to each their own but if people decide to get the DCT I’m all for it as it will only make my CS that much more rare.

In all seriousness, sounds like you already have a few manual cars. If I were in your shoes I’d get the DCT. I don’t own any other manual cars so that’s another reason for my decision.

Going with a manual. Don't care how many I already have! Hahaha

Manual M2C owner here, a choice that i sort of regret.

Shift action is light kinda rubbery, more in tune with typical last decade japanese 4 cyl., not mechanical feeling in a Z4M fashion which is how I expected it to be.

Clutch delay action also numbs the experience, enhances a feel of turbo lag. I had my CDV removed from my z4M in 2011, I don't even remember how it felt with it on to compare. Car feels as if it has a giant flywheel or something.

I have never driven a 1M, but i have driven a manual e92 and that felt satisfying, better than a z4M shift. I think those two and the M2 supposedly share the manual transmission, they do feel very different though.

I owned an e89 z435 w/DCT for three years and i miss the 7th gear. Very often I go searching for a 7th with the M2C, it's kind of annoying.

The M2 CS is a purer bred car I think it should carry the best bits available DCT plus carbon ceramic brakes.

I was in the camp that would lament the demise of the the manual transmission, the truth is though that the DCT is being phased out and i do miss that.

Next generation will be offered as a manual and probably with a torque converter as well.

Disclaimer: My favorite transmission is the e46 smg.
