US buyer. DCT or manual?

US buyer here and my M dealership has me first on the list!
Pretty confident I'm going Misano Blue with Gold wheels and steel brakes. Unsure as to trans.
I just turned in a leased M4 with DCT and sold M2 with manual. Have a couple manual Z4MC's and manual 1M. M2CS will not be a track car (one of Z4's is doing that). Love the manuals but the DCT in M4 was amazing.
I'm curious to hear others thoughts. It seems manuals are getting rare and this is likely one of the last hardcore BMW's I buy. But the DCT does amazing things.
Thoughts are welcome!

That's the problem, I'm exactly 50/50 on it. My emotional side loves the manual but my techie side loves the DCT. I'm leaning towards manual because they are getting harder to find and the "purists" seem to favor them.

I'm speccing my CS the same as you (blue, gold, steels). I'm going manual. Two reasons basically - I want to have the analog engagement for "fun", and I think if the car does become a collector status car at any point that the manual will have the higher resale. If the car was my daily and I had a lot of traffic to deal with, or a hardcore track car that I was going for ultimate lap times, then I'd lean toward the DCT, but in any other case I prefer the manual personally.

Plus it's WAY harder to steal a manual these days LOL

My thoughts exactly. Not really concerned with re-sale as I hope to keep it forever but guess my kids might appreciate it.

I'm planning to go manual with the expectation that I'll have to modify it to get the feel I'm after. UCP and auto solutions ssk. My goal is to eventually get the CS in the lightest spec. Order 6MT, red brakes. Eventually get CCM rotors and lightweight battery. The DCT pulls on me a bit, but when a factor in the added weight, extra cost, and less driver engagement I'm still getting 6MT.

I may get the new clutch slave cylinder if still needed.

The S55 has plenty of tq to put around in 2nd gear in traffic.

I'm curious to see how the clutch and shifter feel. I like the way they are in my 2014 335i, so as long as it is as least as good as that I won't modify it at all. But I'll watch what Dave does, and maybe follow on after . Dave does have a good point about weight though too.

It might be fine. I'm really not that picky. I'll drive it as is for a while. My 92 325i was fine and fun. It was a little rubbery, but as long as you aren't banging gears it's no big deal. My first instructed track days I was asked why I was shifting so fast and told to slow it down. Super quick shifts are only necessary when chasing the last bit of track time capability. I think it was worth a second at Hockenheim. Absolutely meaningless for me.

DCT. Does your dealer know when ordering will start?

I'm going with MB, gold wheels, red brakes and Cup2 tires. Going to do manual as well. I've driven some F80's with the DCT and it is amazing but I think the novelty would wear off and I would end up wishing for the manual. Also lighter and $3k cheaper to boot.

Manual FTW, if it's not a daily that'll give you fits in traffic, why not? And I have a feeling that the manual will be worth more in the future.

DCT. This is going to be my daily driver and the manual is just tedious in the stop and go traffic.

I have a DCT E92 M3 right now and can be configured to come reasonably close to the manual experience (not the same unfortunately).

If it's a daily and for track and likes fast instantaneous auto shift that's still puts a smile = DCT
If you are a purist who can't get rid of your needs to constantly row your hands and scared to be judge because you drive an "Automatic" and thinks it will be a collector in 25 years and get what you paid for back = Stick
Or if you are all of the above like myself, get two cars with two different trannies.

Kidding aside, It is really up to you.

My order is in with a DCT, it looks like this may be the last BMW available with it and figured I'd get one while I still can. 6MT will be available next model and I'd definitely go that way if the other option was the ZF8.

So this week I was driving my manual 20 year old WRX around for a few days. I enjoyed it so much I started to second guess my choice of DCT on the M2cs.

Then I returned to my M2C and fell in love with the DCT again.

In short, I really don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

Both are special in that this is the first CS available with a manual and the last M car available with a DCT. I'd bet heavily that the next M2cs will only be available with the slush box.

It doesn't seem to matter, it appears you burn through cars, so pick whatever tickles your fancy and in 16 months, get the other one. But beware, ted cruz drives a DCT.

You could drive my E36 M3 and that'd make you swear off ever wanting a manual. Even after rebuilding every bit but the internals it is the rubberiest, vaguest, notchiest thing.. bleck!

I had two manual e36s including a "euro" M3. I had a short shift in the non M which was quite nice. I thought the M3 was ok. Maybe they don't age well?

I bought my M2C with a MT, and im going to be honest, i kind of wish i got the DCT. The MT in these cars is...decent but not amazing. I was also stuck in stop and go traffic for 2 hours and my Left foot is screaming at me for not buying the DCT lol.

As many have said, its your choice, but if i had to do it again i think i'd get the DCT.

I think my decision to that also helps that i own a 2005 S2000 so when i want to drive a MT car, i get to drive a car that arguably has one of the best MT ever.
