Yep. Could care less otherwise, but help mitigate depreciation. I also believe there is still a chance that we get surprised with a digital dash.

It'll be almost comical how archaic this car will seem in a year. The G series sounds like they are creating a big boy interior for the 2 series. Small reduction in feel, but giant leap into technology. I'm sure it will come with a nice price increase.

Call me grim, but at this stage I don't expect to be pleasantly surprised with anything on the M2CS. BMW Blog is reporting the earlier disclosed #s for the US of 500 are being revised downwards to 3-400. To me, a pleasant surprise would be producing all 2200 as originally announced, which is in serious jeopardy as production halt will likely extend and the CS ain't a bread and butter car. With that said, I don't expect (here is to hoping) for them to nix it altogether given all the years of R&D, testing, marketing, and pent up enthusiasm and demand.

As far as MY and depreciation - will have no effect on this model. Many 1///Ms were produced in Q3 of the 2011 year when all other BMW models switched to a 2012 MY, you don't see them suffering from that at all. When it comes to low volume collectibles, MY doesn't really play into effect.

M2 CS start of production: March 2020 | End of production: December 2020 (September 2020 for Europe). And there is also the annual Summer vacation. That was the plan.

Now with the coronavirus crisis going on a global rampage, timing has been compromised. A friend of mine got notified this week that production of his M2 CS has been postponed "for an indefinite period". But he was reassured that early adopters will be first served as soon as production is possible again.

Production at the BMW Leipzig plant (and other BMW plants in Europe + South Africa) is interrupted till April 19, 2020. Consider that a start. If all Spring would get lost and BMW sticks to the M2 CS EOP deadlines, things become very tight: then the M2 CS may become in the end a true "limited edition".

This turn could be very positive for those that get a CS if it does truly become limited. The pricing is high, but already announced. Likely protected from further gouging. The more limited the run, the more reasonable the price becomes. If the boat gets missed, no worries, as I was just reading the G87 materializes in 2022. Lots will find faults with the new platform, but I can already see lots of positives.

I wonder about numbers now. You'd have to think they will drop.

The effective drive away price on my signed deal with build slot had gone from US$ 107k to US$ 89k in the space of a week due to the AUD tanking. That includes a ton of "luxury tax" too! Strange times.

Judging by what I see in supermarkets, it seems that toilet paper has become the new Gold Standard...

What happen with the M2 CS so far to many is a 3 year foreplay. Now that she's ready or close, we're not hard or interested enough any more to get into her.

I hear some US dealers have received an indication of allocations. My dealer claims he has 2 allocations confirmed. I don't have reason to doubt him as it is a store with close ties to Corporate and usually are very well informed. That has been my experience purchasing through them smaller denomination/edition cars over the years (e.g. 1///M, 30 Yahre M3). It is a large dealer so I would have expected a higher allotment, perhaps the BMW Blog reported updated figure of 3-400 for US is accurate.

Until production resumes, it is all speculation at this stage... Who knows, if production halt continues into Q3, there is a chance US becomes beneficiary (at the expense of Europe) and receives more cars than planned in Q4 and into 2021. Here is to hoping, that everyone that wants one will eventually get one!

I hope they tell me soon.. I put my deposit down in mid Nov. I didn't think they would take this long to tell me if they would simply sell me a car or not. It was either this or a new M4 which stops production in 3 months and there are a few M4's spec'ed out the way I want left but I prefer the M2CS of course. It would be awful if they told me I didn't get an allocation and there are no desirable new M4's left

Reading about allocations in the past, usually they come out at the beginning of the month (1st 10 days). So maybe people will hear something in early April, especially since April starts a new quarter.

F36 4GC - 06/21
Car manufacturers normally stick to scheduled SOP and EOP deadlines as much as practically possible. Ratio: lots of organisation, coordination and logistics involved, not allowing a flexible timing approach. Use of production lines is optimized. Suppliers are required to ensure just-in-time deliveries.

BMW depends upon a network of over 100 auto parts suppliers from all over the globe (see here). Because of imposed COVID-19 crisis measures getting tighter, the supply chain of all car manufacturers inevitably got disrupted. Several announced to suspend production. For example, on March 18, 2020 BMW announced to interrupt production until April 19, 2020 (end of the Easter vacation) (see here). And this extension could be merely a first step, rather than a final step (possibility of further extension depending on the COVID-19 crisis situation development + new situation of suppliers).

A production stop this size and the uncertainty of near future prospects, is (also) a logistic nightmare. As everyone with a job or business, for sure also lots of teams at car manufacturers scramble to discuss the sake of all existing time schedules (maintain, modify, postpone or shelve projects). With the unknown parameter of knowing the exact timing of normalization. Exceptional circumstances require exceptional measures.

Production of the F82 M4 CS ended last month and end of production of the F82 M4 is scheduled for June 2020. BMW production in Europe and South Africa is now interrupted till 19 April 2020. Depending on the further evolution of the COVID-19 crisis and global economic recession, the production interruption period could be extended, of course (IMHO in a month we will look back to today with the thought that we did not fathom the magnitude of the nightmare awaiting us). If production interruption is extended till the end of June, the F82 M4 production is in principle dusted and done as we speak, except if BMW decides to extend the EOP. But the G80 M3 and G82 M4 are waiting behind the corner (November 2020, if not rescheduled).

No info as to what BMW plans to do with the M2 CS. I know someone who ordered an M2 CS, scheduled for April 2020 production, who got notified last week by his dealer that production of his M2 CS has been postponed for an indefinite period of time. IMHO the possibility that BMW shelves the M2 CS is unrealistic (too late, too expensive and too prejudicial to cancel). I also consider it unlikely that BMW reduces the scheduled (profitable) 2200 quantity. I consider it more likely that BMW extends the initial EOP for the M2 CS (September 2020 for EUR-spec - December 2020 for the US-spec) to June 2021, which is EOP of the M2C. IMHO that would make sense.

I guess that means that because of the shutdown the total production output of the M2 Comp may be less than they had originally planned?

nobody is buying cars right now.

a global recession is coming or already here....

surprised BMW are even going to sell this car, at this point....if they do sell it, they are probably going to delay its production and sales.

In a few more weeks / month, when more people are accustomed to the new "normal", there will be some uptick of people buying cars. True, many people have lost their jobs or on the verge. But similarly, many people do still continue with their jobs virtually and it's business as usual.

Personally, I'm still in the market for a vehicle. Unfortunately, with factories closed, I'm unable to get one. Also the fact that I want to do PCD. Or maybe go for a Porsche instead with an increase in aggressive discounts. Who knows...
