M2 on semi-slick track oriented CUP2 tyres (available from BMW :)
The Michelin CUP2 tyre is some sort of more teack oriented semi slick tyre. It is factory fitted on awesome cars with a great deal of track use in mind (GT3, GT3RS, GT4, M4 GTS, 458 speciale, SLS black series, etc...).
The standard tyre on the M2 is the more street oriented Michelin Supersport tyre that is fitted on every normal M car now available. Also a very good tyre (I have them on my Z4M), but the CUP2 is even better for track work. Of course you can fit every tyre you want afterwards on the M2, but I was suprised to see you can order the CUP2 tyres from BMW as it is stated as an official aftermarket BMW item. Is the M2 suspension, handling also developed to cope with the extra grip of the CUP2 tyres or what is the main reason behind it that the CUP2 tyres is also listed in the M2 parts catalogue? Do you guys think they also tested, developed the chassis of the M2 to work perfect with the CUP2 tyre... If so; it would make more sense if the CUP2 was a BMW Performance option. I don't believe that the M2 suspension is designed to work with CUP2's. However, that doesn't mean that they will not increase the level of grip when added to an otherwise stock M2. Generally a softer compound tire will require stiffer suspension to perform at it's best.
