OP saw the G87 in person and I never did, so I can’t comment on that. Unfortunately, in pictures, the F87 looks better.

Let’s see how the G87 Comp and CS looks. Hoping it would greatly enhance the look of the G87. Comparing a F87 M2CS is unfair cause it does look fire in CS guise.

[QUOTE=StickyPickle;30041711]Don’t mean to keep interrupting the CS circle jerk going on here but figured some may be interested in a decent track video of a bone stock G87. Definitely worth a watch.

Yeah, a designer made the same comment about the M3/4 grilles in that they depart from normal mammalian forms and shapes looking more insectoid… outside our normal ‘palette of attractiveness’ (my words) for sure. I don’t think it looks awful, it’s just a massive disappointment compared to the F 87 where everything fits so beautifully… if there were no F87, it wouldn’t be as much of a problem.

In person, those wide fenders certainly do the G87 justice. I paid a visit to my local dealer with a question about one of my key fobs that's been acting up. They happened to have a G87 demo car. Side by side, the G87 makes the F87 look more narrow and "bubbly", to me. I'm not saying that's bad. Just very different.

After seeing it first hand, I love the side profile and the front isn't nearly as bad as pictures make it seem. The rear end, however, is somehow worse IRL. I'm not sure I could ever get used to that abomination.

if you ever spotted an F87 M2/c/cs face to face, from the opposite direction at a stop light, the hips are so pronounced that it can't hide its photogenic attractiveness. It didn't matter whether on Stock height or lowered, it sets itself apart.

I dunno how i'd feel when the time comes i ever have to spot the G87 M2 at a stop light. I might ask myself, why is it so flat. lol

The G87 sounds super meh in the summary of the comparison here. The comparison is with the OG F87 instead of the CS, but I think we can all figure out where the CS would land here:

The crazy thing about that video is that even a pro driver prefers the OG M2 over the new G87. He used the exact words “artificial” describing the G87s handling characteristics.

I felt the same way and compelled the same experience when i drove the G82 M4c at BMW Thermal. Its easy to go fast and get a good laptime and not even break a sweat. MDM mode is almost perfect and the M engineers did a phenomenal on the tune in the G82 whereas on the previous gen, it still has that playful feel with that a bit of snap oversteer. I also experienced this in my F80 M3 CS very often.

I haven’t driven the new G87 M2 yet and I’m almost certain, its relatable to the same experience i mentioned above.

You can't polish a turd. In other words, no matter what they add to it they can't fix the botched shape.

I showed these pics to my brother. He noticed that the lack of body color front splitter is what makes the G87 look a little off. He thinks the G87 is better looking than the CS. He's a viper owner so I wouldn't call him tasteless . Point being is that BMW does market research and there are folks that love the look of the G87. I'm not one of them, but it was interesting.

And the G80 too.

I was talking about these recent BMW stylings with my 11-year-old this past weekend as we watched thru Savageese’s YouTube comparo of the OG M2, G87, and BMW Supra.

My 11-year-old’s assessment was that the G87 is weird looking — “not good weird, not bad weird, just weird weird.” He followed that with, “of course, your M2 is the best one, Dad!” As I was glowing in the sentiment of raising a boy with great automative taste, he blew it all up with the ending statement: “but Dad, you know the ones with the big grills, like that new M3, those are the ones I really like!”

So yeah, there’s a market for all of ‘em!

I need 7 garage bays in my life. You'll have to give a driving comparison. Are you planning to trade the G87 in on a G87CS?

He did a comparison with his CS on snow tyres versus the new one on BMW PS4S. It’s on the front page. Funny but people seem to like it.

Lol . We will soon have a video from Hagerty soon as Jason Cammisa posted a photo on his instagram with both the CS and G87. Whats funny tho , is that the M2 CS along with the 1M are probably the 2 best drivers cars BMW has ever made. It seems that the new has a different character , its grown up , and a bit more mature , closer to the E92 , F82 M4..

Ofc thats was just an opinion ! Thats why different cars for different folks. The G87 might be better for him , sure more grip , more serious , more tech ! He is not right or wrong , he just said his opinion based on his preference.

Yes I did a back to back same extended route with G82 Comp versus my CS. The G82 is a wonderfully amazing car if you want to get from a) to b) as fast as possible with zero effort or involvement. For many people that is all that they want. And as I’ve said many times before that’s likely what most people want. Super smooth ride. No drama. No work. So obviously that’s what BMW are going to make. Enthusiasts are a very small part of the market and even an ever decreasing part of our little Bimmerpost world too. Needless to say when I got back in the CS after that drive I was very happy indeed. But I freely admit, classic G82 loving guy would think he’d just sat in a Roman Chariot.

FWIW the same arguments occur in the Aston Martin world. The older Vantages are totally analogue and give you an ear to ear grin. The newer ones are faster, bigger, heavier, quieter, less beautiful and get from a) to b) considerably faster with less noise and driver engagement (demand?). Both have their fans.

Having said all that it will be interesting if he takes off the snow tyres and properly runs in the (hopefully) Star spec Cup 2s, which are pretty much an equivalent to star spec PS4S.

Also. Watching the YouTubes. Jeez. M2 good choice as a family car but last choice for these guys.

Is the manual Supra now the most engaging BMW? We are living in a new world.

The Z has a hand brake and a round tachometer though. Mandatory features in any drivers car. I quite like them.

Exactly , companies knows what future buyers want . They spend millions on research , we all see the direction BMW goes just by their styling . XM - M2/3/4 etc all share extreme/bold designs , more like revolution instead of evolution. They want to target a new group of people , probably the younger generation.

Who knows , it might need to be this way in order for BMW to make a smoother transition to EVs in 2030?

If i had a previous compact M car , I'd take the G80 M3 CS from the G series. its the one that makes sense for me ( for its size i prefer it a lot more than the coupe version - its too long almost like an M5 so 2 doors on such a long car doesnt look right to me.)

If it was my first M car , i might have bought the M2 instead. It is what is , it has a different character , and thats true with every BMW M car . Few M cars have things in common with other , but each one has its own character. And i love the character of the M2 CS , even my old F87 and the F87comp. 3 cars , very different one to each other.. what a generation.
