Man, rough couple of weeks. Cracked window and today I hit my driveway at a weird angle and damaged the underside of the front lip. You can't tell from the top. I think I'm going to try to have someone repair it. No sense in replacing it yet. Can most body shops do carbon fiber repair, or is it more of a specialty?

Oof that sucks. Sorry for the bad run!

It's specialty in my understanding. Ironically boat shops are one of the few that can usually do spot repairs since they are so used to doing composites repairs.

I scrape mine all the time but it's only the lip protector from IND that gets hit.

I think it was the lip protector that caused the damage. It applied too much iso lol ated pressure in an area that wasn't reinforced. An oversite on my part. I'm thinking the "more is better" approach was an error in judgement. The Porsche guys said to just epoxy some thin plastic over it and carry on since no one can see it. I was surprised by that. I think I'll just keep patching it until it visible damage from the top. At $2350 to replace I'm going to damage this one a little more .

My thought is that I can epoxy a thin piece of plastic to the inside. Then epoxy the piece that got punched out back in place. A little sanding etc and it will be good enough for me to forget about it.

Ouch.

I am not a fan of most lip protectors for this reason.

They lower the height of the lip in some cases and concentrate forces. You almost would need a very thin plastic scrape guard under there just to prevent incidental scrapes. But honestly if there is heavy damage it will impact and cause problems.

I agree. It almost needs a very thin hard plastic that adheres to the underside with 3m tape. I'm confident that if I didn't have the sliplo on that spot it would have been fine. Don't get me wrong. Other factors such as approach angle and speed were factors. I approached my driveway from the less familiar direction. I approached slowly, but should have come to a stop and did a slow creep. That would likely have prevented the situation too.

Some adhesive backed Teflon might work to prevent superficial cosmetic scrapes without adding significant thickness. McMaster has a few different thickness options:

I endorse doing PPF, although I'm not sure if it would've helped here or by how much.

On a car this beautiful you don't want a base matte black or gloss lip. The carbon matches with the roof and trunk spoiler and it's perfect. This is just a unfortunate event but don't let it get you down too much

It's honestly not that bad & I would drive it without thinking twice

Great work. I love McMaster. I was shopping carbon fiber on their site. I think I'm going to to a quick patch and call it a day. If I didn't have to remove all the sliplo I think this thin Teflon would be a good way to go. I might still experiment.

What tool is needed to remove the expanding rivets? Are the rivets reusable or need new ones?

Bumping this up. Finally getting around to wanting to pull the lip. Anyone have some detailed instructions for removal? I don't want to mess it up.

I haven’t done the lip on the CS but did do one on my M2 Comp. I would suggest having new retaining clips on hand because they often get damaged during removal. Removing them is a mild PITA as they are recessed. I used long nosed needle nosed pliers as I recall.

Ok, I'll get new clips and new blocks just in case. Can you drive with the splitter removed without the front fascia flapping in the breeze. I could get a shop to do it for me.

Sorry Dave, didn't see this. It was super easy to remove, and when the rivets are popped back in the front fascia will be fine. There's something like 4 rivets and 4 screws and then it slides straight forward to come off. That's it.

A tool like this is all you need to make it super duper easy.

Yes, the recess makes it harder, but the tool i linked above, the bend makes it easy to get them out and works great.

Or get a replica carbon fiber lip, cheaper to replace, RW Carbon has one that looks identical to my eyes? I ordered their diffuser and it looks the same to the OEM carbon to me.

Plastic is stiff. Already cracked it maybe it was the cold.
