Some serious Fanboism going on here. If this maintenance coverage is upsetting to the enthusiast(.1%) here on the forum, don't kid yourself, it is even more important to the general public(99.9%)! I have coworkers who left BMW for Lexus and MB because of their perceived poor dealership service experience. They got greeted nicely with a latte or bottle of water at the other dealerships and with attitude at the BMW dealership. The non enthusiast get upset if they don't get a bottle of water and you think that BMW deciding not to include wiper blades or brakes and belts won't upset them and cause them to look elsewhere? Think again.

I've been with the brand even before I got my license at 16. I'll go to the grave with it. This changes nothing for me.

Clearly no one has been with the brand for more than 10 years, back in the day when they first introduced maintenance coverage it was 3/36, they upped it around 04 if i remember correctly to 4/50.

I can assure you the 95% of the time now the 3 vs 4 year coverage is going to be a difference of less than $300 in coverage, they're also no longer paying dealers MSRP for maintenance work, instead going to their regular reduced warranty rates all around.

No. Family has been with the brand since 2003. Mercedes Family since the early 80's.

No. It depends on what you are driving. F and R Brakes and all fluids on my M6 before the maintenance plan expired. Care to guess how much that saved me?

I have owned strictly BMWs since 1977 (39 years) and I really don't understand all the commotion over this.

What can I say, I had a great SA who took care of me and made sure I had a vehicle in nearly factory new condition when both my Maintenance and Warranty programs expired. He took advantage of all programs offered by BMW to do this. Without them I would have been out hundreds of dollars for many items which (in both mine and his opinions) shouldn't have needed such early maintenance/replacement.

Don't believe me? Tant pis pour toi!

Happy to own my BMW. I'm likely to buy another, but be sure it won't be a newer model, especially given the direction BMW is moving both in corporate and automotive design philosophies.
What can we say about customers like you and your SAs.

Largely could be held responsible for such a change when BMWNA probably figured their system is well 'abused'

We're living in a "brave new world" of American expectations these days.

This is a notable reduction to a very nice benefit and I'm disappointed that BMW is doing it, but the sky is not falling and it's not suddenly unaffordable to own a BMW. It would be good if they left the wiper replacement in place so the change has less of a nickel and dime-ing feel to it.

When my mother and father came to the states from Portugal in the late 1980's my father purchased a '89 M3. They kept it until he sold it privately in '02. My mother purchased a '01 325i and that was given to me when I got my license in 2007. She bought a new '08 X3 then and in 2013 I purchased my '08 135i.

Most recently they traded the X3 for a new '15 X3 and I sold the 135i and purchased my new '16 M3. I'd say we've been with the brand as a family for about 25 years.

Almost like BMW doesn't think they have a strong competition, and maybe they don't, but I strongly believe this is a poor decision to change coverage on their cars.

I have owned a few different sports car Japanese vehicles, no major issues. I can't say the same for BMW so far.

Mighty righteous of you there.

If you don't take advantage of a service offered you, you're a fool.

Pretty much this. Several other factors over the last few years, but this is a another small step back.

Couldn't have said it better myself. These are benefits well beyond the competition, and no one is certainly entitled to them. If having to pay for brake pads and wipers is too expensive, then you probably can't afford the car, especially when it goes off warranty.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Pad and rotors changes are what made the maintenance plan "worth it". Us year 4 owners are all trying to devise ways to squeeze in one more rotor change before plan expires. I was lucky enough to get 2 rotor changes done on my M3 and one more on my X5 before my plan expired.

I can care less about oil and wiper changes.

Did it say anywhere about prices changing? The cost of this work is definitely factored into the price of the vehicle

I wouldn't be surprised if they lowered the price of the cars slightly to offset that. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they continued raising the prices. Just a possibility maybe

Actually this is the first time in quite a number of years that BMW hasn't had an across the board price increase on January 1st. So, see they're not all greedy.
