G87 M2CS Auto Only

So, now that we know the next gen G87 M2CS will be Auto Only…..

What does that mean for our Manual F87 M2CS with respect to future desirability and value?

Affirming that its is the Only Modern Manual CS made!!!

The semi-official news about the CS being auto only makes me think I can probably enjoy racking up 30k miles over the next 7-8 years and lose very little on resale. It's a good feeling to have.

And for anyone who may be having trouble finding the news, like I was:

I tend to agree with you here. I think a manual CS will be similar to the 1M where even 60k mile examples were/are selling $60-70k. Moderate to high mileage will probably still be closer to MSRP as long as it has a clean history and not significantly molested. Mine is a DCT but I think even that will hold good value considering they're also an endangered species now

I’ve put about 1500 miles on my ZF8 M3 Touring. The DCT on the M2 CS is 100% definitely the better manual paddle shifter. Needless to say my wife’s taking over what otherwise is a great car next year when I go back to a manual.

Just another reason to dislike an easily dislikable car. Sure, it'll be fast, but BMW will learn this lesson the hard way; it's fun and beauty that win in the end, not fast.

BMW is making record profits year over year. And they’ve probably already made more G87’s than the entire F87 run too.

What lesson do you expect them to learn?

What source do you have for production figures?

Are you high? This information is incorrect. They have not made more G87's than the entire 7-year F87 production run, and most of what they have made are sitting on the lot.

They will learn, and apparently so will you.

Can you not read? 500 M2 output per week rate right now so 26k per year. Total F87 output was ~60k.

He is right , they will outsell the F87 and thats why BMW seemed to learn how it works. First they create the legend , then the badge sells alone. As for the G87 M2 CS, it will still sell even if its auto only. See M3/4 CS/L.

They are trying to attract a younger audience since the regulations and rivals push them and since they know their purists will probably hold onto their cars and won't upgrade.

A 60yo had his chances to buy an M car from the past. The same goes on for a 50yo, a 40yo and even a 30yo. So they will probably sell more M cars to younger people, thus the revolution than an evolution on their designs.

For me at least the worst part its NOT the design, but the driving dynamics and character.

Cars nowadays lack character and soul usually due to weight-size increase and many tech and safety features.
Sound insulation, steering feel, playfulness.
Sure they're fast beasts, but fast doesnt mean fun.

And its not just BMW, even Porsche.
The 992 GT3 is a very different car to the 996/997 even the 991 in terms of driving fun.

So after all, BMW seemed to did its homework. They do really know how to attract new audience. The sales numbers speak !

Starting to feel like the old man sitting around a record player talking about the advantages of vinyl over MP3 haha. I understand, I appreciate, but times are changing and we just need to accept that. I was at the Christmas dinner table tonight with a brother in law who just bought a new BMW. Everyone at the table was raving about the massive wrap around screen and sun roof with LED light display…9 of the 10 people there thought it was epically cool, while I (the lone “not cool” vote) lusted over pics of an E90 Comp manual on my phone.

I think everyone just needs to accept that the BMW of the last 30 years that we all fell in love with will not be the same BMW of the next 30. As I’ve said before, where they’re going doesn’t change where they have been…I can love the past without loving the future, and still be passionate about the brand. That’s true for so many other things, we just never had to experience it with the auto brand we almost all love the most.

So be it…I’ll keep my CS forever, and the next addition to the stable will likely be older. Who cares…let them chase profit, I’ll continue to chase passion

Guess I am the old man in the room. I started to embrace, play everyday and expand my vinyl collection during the pandemic. I went as far as to produce and distribute 30 Podcasts featuring one classic rock album, each show. "5 O'clock Vinyl", featuring NYNick. I had a small, dedicated audience. Maybe I'll start that up again someday.

And I sold my last new Porsche, a 2009 911 turbo, maybe 6 or 7 years ago. I'm done with these overly capable, too fast, too big sports cars and I've been a Porsche fanatic for 50 years. You can't have any fun in them around town.

I recently sold my '74 2002 tii to reduce the number of cars I own and (don't) drive. I'm down to a '78, an '88 and the little bit naughty M2 CS. It reminds me of both the little bit crazy muscle cars of the '60s (yes, I've owned a few) and the early and somewhat dangerous and tricky Porsches.

Whew, that was a mouthful! Time for a nap.

I agree normal day-to-day traffic is horrible. You have to take your sports car out on Saturday/Sunday mornings at around 8am with highway driving to have fun before the roads are congested with stupid SUVs and pickup trucks.

I remember when I used to have an E46 M3. Everyone told me how heavy this car was and how it's so far off from what the E30 M3. I simply loved the E46! Then came the E9x Ms and I was on the other side of the fence. I was the one saying how horrible the E9x design was and joining all the online Chris Bangle protests and so forth. haha. But yet, the E9x chassis sold way more bimmers than the E46 ever did and is now somewhat of a classic collector car (even though I still hate the E9x). BMW's definitely not gonna cancel what they've already put out in production because the "enthusiasts" are mocking/hating their new design. They'll make their decisions looking at their bottom line. One day, the G8x might become a "classic" too. How/why anyone can look at a G8x car and like it will always be a mystery to me, but eye of the beholder and all that yada yada yada, right? No skin off my back though. I'll just buy a different car.

That’s why I went with the least power 911 spec in manual form. I’m not after a track car, but something to enjoy around town and long drives.

Agreed. 379 with 3200lbs is plenty and everything about the T is so engaging and usable. Enjoy it!

Thought of this when I saw (5) G87 M2s in local dealer stock (two blue, red, black and gray). Looks like BMW inventory site shows 16 available at dealers within 100 miles of me.
